Estaban Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Not a big deal, but I took a TWB Tan Hydro (btw, a great strap), used 400 grit standpaper on the tops and a Dremel tool sanding bit on the sides and on areas around the stitiching. Applied mink oil first (three coats) and then have been using some really old leather conditioner I found in my mothers basement. It's called "Cadillac". I also used 400 grit sandpaper on the screw-in buckle. Looks perfect. What do you think???
savage_here Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Just my opinion, but I think a vintage strap looks a little odd with the tuxedo dial. Also, was the stitching already that frayed, or did you hit that w/ the sandpaper as well?

I used Macadamia Nut Oil on this one, and the dremel, of course. Oh, apologies if this is considered a hijack.

Estaban Posted June 6, 2006 Author Report Posted June 6, 2006 Thanks for the nice comments. I frankly think it looks great on the tux dial. I guess that's why there is chocolate and vanilla. The stitching got a little roughed up with the sandpaper/dremel. I hope it holds up. I think it looks great.

Estaban Posted June 7, 2006 Author Report Posted June 7, 2006 The oils will preserve the leather, give it some water repellency, and give it a sheen. Mink oil ususally contains lanolin and some other materials as well. I'm sure there are other types of treatments that do the same thing.
