oswald
I was wondering if anyone has any insight into the history of the California dial. I've traced it to Tudors but I can't seem to find where the term originated. It is a pretty funky dial...
chris5264
Great question. I've seen a few watches with this but would really like to know who was the first to come up with it.
Chronus
I still can't get into liking "CAlifornia" dials... I wonder why?
Watchmeister
I think it has to do with illiteracy among California surfers in the 30's. By the way are you referring to Rolex or PAM California dials?

By the way are you referring to Rolex or PAM California dials? I think they all started with Rolex - at least the earliest ones I've seen. When the Pams came out with the Cali they talked about it having a Rolex dial . . . But I can't find any info on when or why it started, or why it's called a California . . .
