  1. Real classy! Looks like it uses the same mov't as the Omega Speedy "triple date".
  2. So Joe is Miss Understood? I understand not...
  3. Thanks Ubi! I think I need someone to tell me when to stop It's going into this case: so I want the whole vintage vibe to be unified... It's also getting a special vintage mov't: I'm hoping the rest of the watch will live up to the engine.
  4. I was going for the very used, war weary look...
  5. I have to be careful because my oven gets pretty hot: It goes to 2000 degrees!
  6. Thanks guys. I just put a coat of clear satin on it. When fooling around with this one I heated it in a small oven at 175 deg between coats of clear. I noticed that if I didn't let the part cool down between coats then cracks ran all over the surface. Some of you guys fooling with vintage stuff may find this useful. I'll bet you could heat up a Vintage Rolex dial, shoot it with some clear and get some cool effects if you wanted to risk it. The only thing about a Rolex dial is that if you screwed it up you couldn't fix it.
  7. Wow great work especially since you started with a completely dead watch! Wear it with pride!
  8. I hope to get it right next time...
  9. It's just a cheap fiddy case. I think the dial's gonna be a "do-over"... Put a big @ss dom on it though... more crust...
  10. Mov't side: The spacer still needs some work...
  11. Good crispy or bad crispy! Or crusty, or crappy...
  12. I was going for the "crusty radium" look. Any input?
  13. It'd be a great watch if you're a hommasexuall Seriously, for $40, why not!
  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/EATON-ROLEX-1-4-CENTUR...1QQcmdZViewItem Wonder what it'll go for...
  15. Thanks guys! It's an RXW case that I'm turning into a 6152 vintage for a friend. That crystal is a prototype and it still needs a little work.
  16. I was trying to match a photo of a gen that's floating around the internet...
  17. Great idea on the alternate 8 day watch! I'm always looking at them on Ebay. OT, but more cats: http://www.speedmonkey.net/popculture/headphone_cats.htm
  18. Not really. http://cgi.ebay.com/Taig-4-Axis-CNC-Millin...1QQcmdZViewItem Add another $500 in tooling and about the same for a Taig or shurline lathe and you could do what he does and much more. IF you had the skills. His skills and knowledge of engineering are astounding!! Someday I'm gonna get one of those little buggers! It's a friggin' 4 axis also. If you know what one can do, well, you know what one can do
  19. The postman dropped this off today! This one is pretty special for a number of reasons and will find a home in a very special watch! God I love the vintage stuff. Many thanks to a really nice fellow from far, far away...
  20. Thanks guys! I didn't mean to hijack, just pointing out how much fun these cheap watches can be The case distressing is sort of an evolved thing. One of the old hands here, maybe Nanuq or Ubiquitous, got me rolling on the distressing thing. I look at pics of gens and just try to emulate that. If you look at pics of old gens it's usually more of a "burnished" finished than just scratched up. You have to scratch it up, polish, (I use a buffer on a dremel) scratch, polish, etc. until you get the patina. I use files, sandpaper and the dremel for beating them up. It actually takes a little time to get them looking old. Here's another of my favorites:
