  1. Pic of CN mov't. I removed my back with duct tape. Just make a big sticky ball of it with the sticky side out, stick it to the back and twist. Good luck! You can do it Just remember not to leave any prints on the mov't...
  2. My CN mov't PAM did the same thing. It's an easy fix yourself with nothing more than a jewelers screwdriver and some tweezers. I just gave the spring a sharper bend where it goes into the tiny hole in the pawl and it's been going strong now for quite a while. Just be careful and don't lose the screw.
  3. I guess I'm sort of a weirdo... college educated, professional and I'm in management but I'm a blue collar wannabee I've whittled my professional time down to 3 days a week and I run a welding and machine shop on the side so when I'm not "working" I usually dress like a mechanic with my name over the pocket and everything. I do pretty well at both gigs but they are so diametrically opposed that folks who don't know me well just can't get their minds around it... Vintage all the way for me I'm just not a bling sort of guy. This is the closest thing I have to a BMW... http://www.mcasta.ru/eng/motorcycle/imz-gearup.html Seriously... Mine's olive drab with an FN-FAL mounted on the car.
  4. I was wondering if anyone has any insight into the history of the California dial. I've traced it to Tudors but I can't seem to find where the term originated. It is a pretty funky dial...
  5. I have an Asian auto base PAM on rubber that I swim with. No clear back, and you don't have to wind it as often which wears on the seals. I'm no expert but this but this one tested OK with the warm water and swimming test. It was also pretty cheap so it won't hurt much if it floods...
  6. Dude, get real! He's friggin' Rambo...
  7. I'm in the US. I may take the back off and check it out.
  8. I chickened out... Wore a base logo instead. Maybe tomorrow...
  9. I don't wear it that often because it's so big and weird looking but I shall don it in the AM. Please leave my penis out of this...
  10. I want a vintage military diver. What do you guys think, vintage Pam or Rollie? I'll probably end up with both...

  12. I got my Mom an ETA DJ around christmas and she says it stops every night. She says she winds it most mornings and wears it during the day. I can't hear the rotor wind when I swirl it but it seems OK otherwise. Anyone know what mov't these watches have? Any ideas?
  13. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-vintage-Rolex-Mil...1QQcmdZViewItem
  14. I have a decent meth lab
  15. I got a Timex auto diver when I was about 14 and it lasted until I was around 30 It went through a bunch of straps and a couple of Twist-O-Flex's but I lost it on a backpacking trip. (I swear I'm gonna look for it one day...) When I went to get a new watch there just weren't any autos so I went quartz for a while before discovering on-line commerce. Commenced to Seiko, Vostok, Poljot and to reps. First rep was a hideous Yachtmaster from Mexico. I gave it away...
  16. Check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 These pop up on ebay all the time. I'll probably get one just because they are pretty cool They have big phosphor lined tubes that have tritiun gas in them. (Maybe I'll make a great big Luminox ) I thought about trying to extract the tritium for watch lume but I'm not sure about the gas deal. I think watch dials have powdered tritium. Anyone have any input on this deal?
  17. The best reply I've heard, although I never used it is: "I don't know, I took it off a dead guy."
  18. I have a couple of stainless steel subs and they are very nice watches. If you get one of the eta reps from a dealer here you will be pleased with the quality.
  19. I once told a drug rep who was wearing a nice Brietling (Chrono avenger I think... I didn't know much about them at the time) that my Rollie was a fake when my boss says "He's such a bullshitter!" (My boss asked him about the Brietling.) I think the guy didn't know what to believe Since Pams are so funky I get asked about them and fess up. Of course, they just give me a blank stare because they've never heard of Panerai...
  20. I don't know the guy that well but I think he wanted to give me the big news about how much the watch is worth. Maybe I shouldn't have told him it's a fake. I think it let him down...
  21. Ditto on the CN Fiddy Funny, I rarely wear my fiddy because it's so big and crazy looking but I still want a better one
  22. That Nivrel chrono reminds me a lot of a Speedmaster triple date...
  23. Last year I posted on the old board about this Doc commenting on my COMEX. His comments were limited to "Interesting watch" and "very nice timepiece" etc. I was going to tell him it's a rep but I got busy and never had time to chat. He's a big time nephrologist who rarely makes rounds in the clinic so I don't see him that often but He has been spotted with a Tag, an Omega and a brown GMT so I figure he likes watches. I rotate through a bunch of lower end gens. and nice reps so today was the second time he saw the COMEX. Anyway... I'm going over some charts with him, (OK pointing to where he should sign) when he comments on my watch. Doc: "That's an interesting watch." Jetmid: "Thanks, I don't even know how to swim but I like dive watches." Doc leans in for a closer look, "May I?", while motioning to hold it. So Jetmid whips off his watch and hands it to doc who carefully turns it over, inspects the clasp, lifts his glasses onto his head and looks some more. Doc: "This is pretty amazing. Do you know how much this could be worth?" Jetmid: "Well, I just like it..." Doc: "No, this is a VERY valuable watch, If it were mine I'd have it appraised and insured." "It's a fake, doc. I just beat it up to make it look old." Doc, squints his eyes while giving the watch a disaproving, yet inquisitive look... "That's dishonest" he replies. "Well, I'm not going to sell it as authentic, I just like the history attached to Rolex and Comex. I've never even held a real one." "A dishonest person could really dissapoint someone with something like this." He counters. "If I wanted to rip someone off I'd go with a Panerai." Jetmid says, grinning. "By the way, nice TAG." "Thanks, and to think, Nursing is usually the most respected profession in those surveys. I trust you won't be up to any mischief with that Rolex." Doc says as standing up to leave. "Oh no, Take care doc." True story...
