oswald Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 I was wondering if anyone has any insight into the history of the California dial. I've traced it to Tudors but I can't seem to find where the term originated. It is a pretty funky dial...
chris5264 Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 Great question. I've seen a few watches with this but would really like to know who was the first to come up with it.
Chronus Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 I still can't get into liking "CAlifornia" dials... I wonder why?
Watchmeister Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 I think it has to do with illiteracy among California surfers in the 30's. By the way are you referring to Rolex or PAM California dials?

I think they all started with Rolex - at least the earliest ones I've seen. When the Pams came out with the Cali they talked about it having a Rolex dial . . . But I can't find any info on when or why it started, or why it's called a California . . .
