I know my local supply house has some -A2's in stock for $195. They are vacuum sealed, so not the bulk variety of movement, but I doubt it is a higher end version either. I think I'll call them tomorrow, and ask if they can even get a Chronometre on special order or something. I'm sure it will upwards of $300 though. I would guess by the prices dealers are getting/selling them for it's not a top/chronometre grade. Servicing is great without doubt, but it doesn't improve the quality of the shock protection, regulator system, balance, mainspring, etc. that keep the watch running accurately after it's been regulated. Yea but most people probably don't cliff dive, bungee jump or mountain bike with their rep mechanical watches and, when it comes to reps, probably don't have watch winders for them all.... So, they tend to stay accurate for years after regulation. And since we're constantly wearing a different watch on a different day, the others tend to wind down and have to be reset every week or so anyhow. I know that in my case, at worst they're about +/-10s a day and most are far better than that. But with the frequency I wear any given watch they could definitely stand to be a lot worse. It is interesting, though. The different grades definitely have different specs with regards to daily variation. But it sure doesn't seem to mean that they WILL be at the outer limits of their spec'ed range. For example a standard grade 2824 is spec'ed at a max daily variation of +/- 30s. But, after regulation, not one of mine is anywhere near that inaccurate that I've noticed (and I do assume reps are standard grade stuff). Prior to servicing though, I've probably had several 2824s that were far worse than that. Oh, and the info I've seen has indicated that the 2824 is available in four executions or grades: Standard, Elaborated (improved), Top and Chronometer levels of component quality. And that the 2892 is available in only three executions or grades: Elaborated, Top and Chronometer. What is this "Economique" grade? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

stilty Posted January 11, 2008 Report Share Posted January 11, 2008 I spoke with my supply house, and I was told that there is only one available from ETA. They only have one part number and that is it. He said there is a branch of ETA that does custom orders for the brands. I named off all the grades, and I was told that these were options for special orders by manufacturers. And only available for orders of 1000 or more. I also asked about ordering a COSC movement, and he told me in the 30 years he's been in the business, he has not seen one. He also told me that the movement has to be cased by the manufacturer, and then adjusted. No loose movements are certified, only watches. The Zigmeister, do you have an info sheet on the different grades? I'd like to see it, even though my guy says he can't special order. I also checked one of my movements, and it has a COSC number!
