Swiss Eta Valjoux 7750 - Is This The Right One?

Recommended Posts

I had heard these were a fortune. $200 is not bad at all in my book. Would one of these fit into the latest TAG Link reps that are floating around (or Breitling) using the Asian movement?

Seems like if this is a direct drop in a) there should be more watched offered with thes/and for less money too and B) instead of servicing new Asian 7750s, just save the money and swap with one of these right away, or even after the Asian breaks.

Any thoughts?

That's not a Valjoux 7750. It's a 7753-copy. A 7750 is 6-9-12.

I'm w/pugwash--I would never buy a 7753 w/o a pic of the dial side of the movement (not covered by some faux dial). Plus, if this guy is selling a swiss 7753 for 200 bucks, he's sleeping.

This is an Asian movement with the non-operational regulator. Some ebay sellers have the genuine 7750 movements and if you are lucky you may 'win' one at roughly this level in auction. Otherwise the 'Buy-it-now' is usually $300 approx. I have bought a couple for transplanting but my best buy was a complete, unattractive watch with the gen Valjoux 7750 movement. I intend to swop this with a working Asian movement and resell it on the 'Bay' with an honest description of the movement swop. This should work out the most economical option.

Be even more careful. The '7753 copy' Pug is referring to should really be described as a lookalike as it is a bodged 7750 with a couple of transfer wheels added to make it function visually like a 7753 for reps that need that configuration. Datewheel will be in the wrong location and be too far from the dial though. This movement cannot be used as a replacement for a genuine 7753.

It can however be used for a replacement for a 7750 if the transfer wheels are removed and the hand wheels swapped over, but why would anyone want to?

... and these movements are worth about $50, not the $200 he's asking.

I wouldn't give you $5 for one of them :bleh: 21,000 BPH models are discernable by the non-functioning fine regulator. These are the ones The Zigmeister refuses to service!

The used 7750 is almost certainly genuine. The second one is a fake.

ETA supply their movts in a clear plastic case with a blue insert like this one:

The crown will always be white plastic and there will be plain subdial hands fitted but no dial at all. Usually you can get these new from Frei & Borel for about $260 if you dont mind a different name on the rotor - easily changed for a blank one.

And this one.

Price seems more in keeping with a gen.

From my limited knowledge gained on here (thanks to The Zigmeister), it looks like a gen too (7753).

That is also absolutley genuine and is a 7753. It does not have the case (maybe taken off for the pics) but you can clearly see the sub hands and the finish of the movt is also less shiny and more refined.

This case would be a straight swap - easy (if you have the right tools!).

If you are thinking of a swap for what would be a 7753 configuration using the asian transfer gears then follow The Zigmeister's post on how to - but - once you have removed the asian transfer gears they will need to be staked and pressed on again with a proper press otherwise the transfer gear will simply slip round on the minute counter pinion - this is not a DIY job without the correct tools.

Mmm, this is getting fun! Good lessons on recognition of movements. All good stuff.

Forgive my ignorance, Pug you mentioned you could see the ETA logo under the escapement. Can you point me in the right direction please? (Still learning :) )

Also, with regard to replacing the rotor, where would be the best place to source a Breitling rotor correct for a Navi? With the gen 7753 movement, would I be correct in thinking this will drop straight into a Navi with 3-6-9?

You will see the ETA logo directly under the balance wheel and the numbers 7750. This is not a swap unfortunately. All the asian made 3,6,9 dials have a 7750 with transfer gears that sit over the datewheel and this is the problem. The datewheel is a different size on a gen 7753 so the dial window will be in the wrong place. Only solution here is to fit the Swiss 7750 and swap over the transfer gears - but this is not straight forward and requires special tools.

See this thread and also The Zigmeister's tutorial for more info.

Thanks fine. Im working my way through The Zigmeisters excellent posts.

I was also planning on replacing the dial with a gen dial. Im guessing this will negate the need to swap bits over from the Asian?

(Sorry for hijacking the thread a bit).

Unfortunately, I don't have a genuine 7750, so I'll use my 2836 for the logo and the movement off eBay.

Yes this should be a straight swap over in that case. You might need to fiddle with the movt clamps as the asiam modded 7750 is thicker due to an extra spacer ring to clear the dial over the transfer gears. It is also possible that because of this spacer the case stem hole will not line up with the movt stem hole on the 7753 so you would need to check this also.

Cheers finepics. So long as I dont have to fiddle with the lickle gear fingies too much! :) Even with my fingers which are like pigs [censored], it should be straightforwardish.

Pugs, you have 4 months on me and on this subject its important. Ive learnt so much in only a few days.
