I think it is simple supply & demand. There is a finite (and shrinking) supply of vintage Rolex parts & an ever-growing demand for that finite supply. Add to this the fact that Rolex no longer provides retail distribution channels for current parts (until the early 90s, most ADs sold Rolex parts 'over-the-counter') & you see the crazy price ranges we see today.
