simonsays Posted May 15, 2008 Report Share Posted May 15, 2008 hi i am a big daytona fan and one of the reasons i stumbled into the world of reps was to get me a good-un. months later and lots of research i think i finally understand the flawed world of daytona reps. so in the spirit of helpfulness heres a brief outline . you CANT find a good daytona rep that will stand up to anything more than a quick glance from anyone who knows the watch. if thats your priority ...go for a different rep. if a website or dealer tells you their product is a perfect copy... RUN AWAY. ok some terminology. sec@ 9= second subdial at the 9 o'clock position sec @6= .... you get it! "newer" post 2001 daytonas have sec@6 . older or vintage (paul newman) watches have sec @9. i have purchased 3 daytonas, of wildly varying prices but all from trusted dealers. for $95. an asian 21j tt from WBK (aka stan found on repgeek and rwi). this was the cheapest but in some ways is the closest on the wrist to the gen. it has the ultra reliable asian 21j that we know and love. this powers the sec @6 subdial AND the constantly sweeping large chrono second hand. this looks like you' ve left the chrono running. the min and hours hands are faux (false just stuck on). the subdial spacings are pretty good and importantly the width of the case and angle of the bezel is good. this is because the simple movement can sit in a thinner case. photo below illustrates the difference between the simple a21j and the fully functioning asian 7750 sec @6. the fatter sec@6 7750 is on the left with the steeper angled bezel. a gen sec @6 has the same slim , low angled bezel as the one on the right. for $195 asian 7750 25j with sec@9 from silix (www.silix-prime.com). the main fault with the sec@9 daytonas is the totally wrong spacing of the subdials. the 9 and 3 subdials are set too far apart. many people find this really unacceptable. the good points of this watch are the case is thinner than the 7750 sec @6 rep, as the 7750 movement is designed to run sec@9 and needs no complicated modifications. it is also quite reliable in this form and all the chronos fully function. i just like the look of this watch, especially with the black strap. this is the one to go for if you want to play with the chrono function, want reliability, but dont mind that the sub dials scream fake! below is a picture illustrating the poor spacing of the sec@9 rep, compared with the more accurate $95 21j watch. finally for $260 a "new" highbeat red letter 7750 sec@6. sourced by fakemaster. this seems to be the model most people want. i dont know about elsewhere but this stainless steel model with the white face has a 7+ yr waiting list in the uk and sells for a $6000 premium if you cant wait! the 7750 sec@6 model has 11 gears and a gear bridge extra to the normal movement. this is to transfer the usual sec@9 7750 application to a sec@6 application. this mod is fraught with problems because the extra gears cannot be lubricated and just "sit" on the bridge. this creates alot of drag and often stops the movement. the newer high beat models maybe more reliable? some people report owning and using these watches for years with no problems... but the problems are there. this particular watch stopped within a week of getting it. i took the movement out to do a "graphite lube" and it started again. it has now been runniung fine for several weeks? the other problem this rep has is the fatter case, as mentioned before. so if you want an accurate model(apart from the case thickness) with sec@6 and functioning chronos then this could be the one? if youre prepared to take a risk!(probably best not to run the chronos too much). below are all three watches together . hope this has been of some use to someone? if theres any mis-information, or anyone has anything they feel should be added, post! if this has been done already.... sorry si Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Reliable, working chronos and only a small percentage would realise the difference. I guess the fatness of the case and the wrong bezel angle is just as noticeable on the secs @ 6 as the spaced sub dials on the secs @ 9. just wish they would have labeled the secs @ 9 version with a 0-60 dial instead of a 0-12. triosLescano Posted June 23, 2008 Report Share Posted June 23, 2008 Daytona is the most loved of the world, but dont exist a raisonable rep, a sub MBK is so similar to gen, an AP second running at 12 is so similar, a crono Breguet is so similar ecc..... but Asian Daytona is very bad, case is incorrected, dial is poor ecc...
