bscblue
Is there any place to get BlancPain replicas? I remember seeing on one of those ubiquitous replica sites you're likely to find in a Google search a Le Man replica and have been unable to find it since. A friend of mine had a genuine Le Man Moonphase in steel before he sold it to get a pre-owned Royal Oak Offshore also in steel. I loved this watch and the way it marked the days and wanted one. I searched for a replica and managed to find one! This replica, based on the photos, looked IDENTICAL (except for one extremely minor logo sizing issue, which you could only notice if you were to be studying both rep and gen side-by-side and it had the exhibition back but if you know anything about BlancPain, you know know this ain't one of their movements). This rep even had the very unique way that model marked the days. Anyway, enough flashback! Is there any trusted dealer who has any BlancPains? My friend got many compliments on his Leman that he hasn't gotten on this Offshore. But that is not to say it hasn't received it's share of comments! That AP ROO a polarizing watch, really. BlancPains divers are sedate, almost narcolepticly so, comparatively.
alt.watch.obsessive
I could be wrong, but I don't recall seeing any decent Blancpain reps.
b16a2
I haven't come across any, I would love to see some though, especially the Fifty Fathoms!
bscblue
I go to the different dealers but I really don't see any either. It may be due to lack of interest. That's hard too because it's not often they get the look and function of a watch right the first time. BlancPain has a good history and should get a little more out there. Corgi
They did exist a few years ago but I guess production has stopped. I have asked Narikaa to search for them on his most recent trip but I guess it came up empty - and if he can't find any then it's likely nobody can. bscblue
So they may not make them, huh? I'm kinda sad about that! I was thinking of a 50 Fathoms too! That watch is popular, with the "in" gen watch collectors. There needs to be an archive or a registry for reps (good ones and bad ones). Kinda in the vein of the Lamborghini, Ferrari Corvette registry; for trading and knowledge purposes. LOL That may or may not be a good idea, depending on who you talk to but already replicas are as good as their genuine counterparts. For those who say replicas aren't good watches to begin with, for whatever reason, I ask you to look to the fact that some genuine models, new and old, are as persnickety as their replica siblings. I work in the automobile industry and if you look at it analogous to owning a collectible car, many of which are known to be rolling money pits or require regular maintenance, a replica watch can perhaps be considered the same. I once paid a person from the boards more than what he paid for his particular Chopard replica because they didn't make it any more (at least I couldn't locate it) and it still looked and performed excellently. I'm not saying these are investments in the way a certain Breguet is but they do have their own charm and, subsequently, their own intrinsic value. Anyway, the registry would ensure that even if they made a replica and only sold five of that particular model (and this is assuming it was well-made to begin with and the person who owned it took care of it) you could track it down and admire it or buy it from the owner. I am totally liking this idea.

bscblue
THAT'S THE ONE I MEAN! The one I first saw was white faced. The white faced one just had a more elegant look as the black model appears more sporty, more evening. Edited June 3, 2008 by bscblue
