Never knew this day would come...I Gran is ready to buy my first ROLEX B)

OK! OK! its not quite true...its not for my own use..a friend of mine that is in prison for reasons best untold. He wants a ROLEX Yachtmaster or submariner all gold (gold plated). He wants to impress fellow inmates....god knows why

Have looked at

1. RLSF10004 Full Gold Gold Serti Dial Swiss Eta 2836-2 Updated (www.pc-80108.com/rlsf10004-full-gold-gold-serti-dial-swiss-28362-updated-p-4717.html)

and

2. RLYMF10001 Full Gold Gold Dial Swiss Eta 2836-2 (www.pc-80108.com/rlymf10001-full-gold-gold-dial-swiss-28362-p-429.html)

Not knowing ack and front on a ROLEX my questions to more experienced collectors is if this is a reasonable buy Or if I canmake a better selection?

Best regards

Gunnar :)

I have no real clue regarding those watches you mention, sorry. However I am always sceptical of the plating quality and of the "gold" used.... Any signs of wear or fading and that's your lot for that replica.....

I would suggest the new GMT2 ceramic bezel, or a nice SSD, as I have seen both first hand and they are really accurate and solid watches :)

Cheers! B)

No offense, but Mickey's answer is mostly correct (but I would shy away from the GMTIIC due to its movement issues).

If the inmate wants a 'gold' watch, then you might do better by asking him which he wants instead of any of us.

To my eye, neither of the 2 watches you posted are very good.

Just giving you my honest opinion ;)

Full gold is a bit too blingy for me, but if I had to choose, it would be the blue dial Sub AllergyDoc posted (nice watch :) ), and not the two from your original post, sorry :p

Why not get him a nice B&O kit, twice-weekly visits from the local escort agency and regular supply of Columbia's finest whilst you're about it....

I think you should do your friend a favour and refrain from sourcing either of these. Whilst I suspect Norwegian prisons may be like holiday resorts compared to most countries, he will still be mixing with other inmates, which means you'll either be laser-sighting one of his intercostal spaces for an unfortunately sharpened eating utensil, or else painting a target on his backside. Neither of which you'd want on your conscience I'd assume?

....related to his current incarceration perhaps?

Let me guess, something victimless and soft - tax evasion? Just a wild stab in the dark......which is, incidentally, what he may be getting walking round with a gold Rolex on his wrist, rep or otherwise.

The only reason I mentioned the SSD and GMT2 ceramic bezel, was because they are by far and away the best "out of the box" Rolex replicas you can buy at this point in time, and would be way more "believable" and impressive than the two watches you linked too......

The GMT2 is a real looker in particular and larger than other Rolex watches, if you don't mind the modified GMT movement....

Nothing can look worse on a watch than plated gold, although you might get lucky and get a watch that does not look yellow (like AllergyDoc's watches nice colour tone) :)

Cheers! B)

Hehe, no worries ^_^

Although if he were to get the plated gold Rolex, then "ding" it one on his jail cell bars, the metal underneath might show through, and hardly anyone likes to be shown up for their true colours, while in jail or otherwise :p
