JoJo35
I usually have better luck than lately, but perhaps it is partially because the explorer was never quite so popular as the subs, and therefore less info is readily available. Here's my question for those who may know: 1) Gilt dial explorers without chapter ring, do these have gilt hands too? I thought they would be, but pictures I have seen appear to have silver hands with gilt dial. 2) 2mm springbars like the subs? (even though the cases are a bit thinner?) Or do the 20mm lug early explorers have the smaller diameter springbars like the 1601's? Pictures I've seen appear to have large diameter lug holes, and I would think the explorer would have stronger springbars because it was supposed to be tougher than your average watch, but I could be 100 percent off on this one too! Thanks for any input! Cheers, JoJo

alligoat
Here's a gilt dial with what appear to be silver hands at Robert Maron: http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-VINTAGE-EXPLORER...1QQcmdZViewItem And an earlier watch from Raymond Lee- but w/ a chapter ring- appears to be gold hour and minute and silver second hand http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Rolex-Explorer...1QQcmdZViewItem My theory in vintage is whatever works- it's more important to balance the lume on the dial and the hands whatever you do! Heywood
Borel lists them in their catalog as well. Might be a little cheaper. Here's the page.
kent2
this is my gen 1016 gilt. it came with silver hands and spring bars not like the sub 2mm ones but another type of rolex bars with steps. i am the second owner and was told it was not modded. the bracelet in the photo was just put on as a trial and the watch is now mounted to a better piece of steel
