Let me know what the next things to change should be... Besides a gen bracelet!!!

MBW 1680

2846-2 slow beat, serviced

gen crown and tube

gen crystal

aged and recessed insert

lightly aged dial, just slightly off white with some texture

lightly aged date wheel, again slightly off white and uneven

hollow mid link bracelet, not the solid mid MBW

old style clasp and deployant, not the new modern one

case drilled perfectly with gen spring bars

case sealed

Here are the pics... Let me know what should be different or done.

I think an old tritium pearl would look good and maybe a slight trim on the cg's. Other than that, my theory is wear it and ENJOY! Nice job.

I subscribe to the theory that it's only a rep, so there is only so much you can do without going overboard. Oh, I am getting ready to put a relumed dial in my WM 1680- it's my latest deal- relumed dials and hands- more fun at night and during the day when you come in out of the bright sunlight. You can't relume a gen, but why not a rep- it's only a rep!

I think you should trim in inner CG's first and see how it looks.

The biggest problem I see with this watch is that it is in your watch case and not my own.

Twill be havin a shart liv in the Old Dreggs boy! because someone will most certainly give ye it's worth in Duckets?

Best of luck (like you're gonna need that) with this sale.

OK, the CG's have been trimmed (inside only). I will shoot some pics tomorrow.

The thing I find with these vintage Rolex's CG's is there is NO real standard. Just go to DRSD.com and look at the Subs and Sea Dwellers there, no two are alike.

Anyway, I took of what I think is just enough to get them in the ball park, I will be interested to see what your opinions are tomorrow.

T

PS: Did I ever tell anyone how much I hate trimming CG's???

OK, after a couple long and exhausting reference picture searches and about 4 hours of shaving, polishing, shaving, polishing... Here is what I have come up with.

Check the original post for the BEFORE pictures.

Then you will notice a middle set of pictures. This was after I had shaved the inside down to where I wanted them.

And in the final few pictures, after I had softened the outside edges.

I am pretty happy with the result.

The final pictures were my main reference pictures. And the last one... WTF were they thinking with THOSE CG's? There is almost nothing left.

Excellent, CBR. Now the crown has a little breathing room.

There is no doubt that rolex crown guards vary. There was a period during the 60's when the 5513 had 4 different types of cg's! Pointed, square, rounded....

And when you're talking about a 35 year old watch, you have to add in it's history- scratches, dings and dents, polishing, etc. it's no wonder there is so much variation.

Looking good now baby!
