lanikai
Do you remember when lyrics were really 2 or 3 verses that played over and over ?? but along with the notes .. the licks on the Fenders and Bass play... Drums and percussion ... some songs will live through eternity !! I think "one" such "Oldy".. has to be "In A Gadda Da Vida" ... By Iron Butterfly jus hearing the first few notes can send the adrenaline soaring instantly.. to want to do some of the crazy antics of youth.. but now it's jus getting on the Harley... or getting to the Gym..gone are the magic mushrooms ... LSD.. or that psycotropic thing from a certain cactus plant.. Those day's were so care free.. although I didn't remember in the morning what happened the night before There were day's when I couldn't tend bar without a hit of something... Ahhh ... our generation was by far .. the most "tripped out" Any song bring it back for you ?? Iron Butterfly In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida lyrics In a gadda da vida, baby (In the Garden of Eden) In a gadda da vida, honey Don't you know that I'm lovin' you Oh, won't you come with me And take my hand Oh, won't you come with me And walk this land Please take my hand In a gadda da vida, honey Don't you know that I'm lovin' you In a gadda da vida, baby Don't you know that I'll always be true Oh, won't you come with me And take my hand Oh, won't you come with me And walk this land Please take my hand In a gadda da vida, honey Don't you know that I'm lovin' you In a gadda da vida, baby Don't you know that I'll always be true Oh, won't you come with me And take my hand Oh, won't you come with me And walk this land Please take my hand In a gadda da vida, baby (In the Garden of Eden) In a gadda da vida, honey Don't you know that I'm lovin' you Oh, won't you come with me And take my hand Oh, won't you come with me And walk this land Please take my hand
Guest carlsbadrolex
For the first time in a very long time, I am at a loss for words. Either I truly am as old as my birth certificate says or I watch too much late night television (think Time Life Classic Rock Collection). In either case, THAT is one of my favs. At one time my father had the vinyl for this. I remember the entire song being REALLY long. Nice Post R! hambone
This one takes me back, Deep Purple... Fly into the rising sun, Faces, smiling everyone Yeah, she is a whole new tradition I feel it in my heart My woman from Tokyo She makes me see My woman from Tokyo She's so good to me Talk about her like a Queen Dancing in a Eastern Dream Yeah, she makes me feel like a river That carries me away My woman from Tokyo She makes me see My woman from Tokyo She's so good to me But I'm at home and I just don't belong ... So far away from the garden we love She is what moves in the soul of a dove Soon I shall see just how black was my night When we're alone in Her City of light Rising from the neon gloom Shining like a crazy moon Yeah, she turns me on like a fire I get high My woman from Tokyo She makes me see My woman from Tokyo She's so good to me Another Deep Purple song from days of sweet Hawaiian buds gone by.. Nobody gonna take my car I'm gonna race it to the ground Nobody gonna beat my car It's gonna break the speed of sound Oooh it's a killing machine It's got everything Like a driving power big fat tyres and everything CHORUS I love it and I need it I bleed it yeah it's a wild hurricane Alright hold tight I'm a highway star Nobody gonna take my girl I'm gonna keep her to the end Nobody gonna have my girl She stays close on every bend Oooh she's a killing machine She got everything Like a moving mouth body control and everything I love her I need her I seed her Yeah She turns me on Alright hold on tight I'm a highway star Nobody gonna take my head I got speed inside my brain Nobody gonna steal my head Now that I'm on the road again Oooh I'm in heaven again I've got everything Like a moving ground an open road and everything I love it and I need it I seed it eight cylinders all mine Alright hold on tight I'm a highway star Nobody gonna take my car I'm gonna race it to the ground Nobody gonna beat my car It's gonna break the speed of sound Oooh it's a killing machine It's got everything like a driving power big fat tyres and everything I love it and I need it I bleed it Yeah it's a wild hurricane Alright hold on tight I'm a highway star I'm a highway star, I'm a highway star

Nanuq
How about some Jack Bruce? In the white room with black curtains near the station. Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings. Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes. Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment. Ill wait in this place where the sun never shines; Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves. You said no strings could secure you at the station. Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows. I walked into such a sad time at the station. As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning. Ill wait in the queue when the trains come back; Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves. At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd. Consolation for the old wound now forgotten. Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes. Shes just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings. Ill sleep in this place with the lonely crowd; Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves.
pizzanooo
Those were some very special times indeed. Iron Butterfly could be the earliest heavy metal band, besides Hendrix they really expanded the instruments. Then again Jeff Beck did some abusing also. To throw up some lyrics here, this is from Hendrix live: Machine guns. Still one of the best live albums I enjoy and this song at over 11 minutes will take you to another place. It was about Vietnam. Machine gun Tearing my body all apart Machine gun, yeah Tearing my body all apart Evil man make me kill ya Evil man make you kill me Evil man make me kill you Even though were only families apart Well I pick up my axe and fight like a bomber (you know what I mean) Hey! and your bullets keep knocking me down Hey, I pick up my axe and fight like a bomber now Yeah, but you still blast me down to the ground The same way you shoot me down, baby Youll be going just the same Three times the pain, And your own self to blame Hey, machine gun I aint afraid of your mess no more, babe I aint afraid no more After a while, your, your cheap talk dont even cause me pain, So let your bullets fly like rain cause I know all the time youre wrong baby And youll be going just the same Yeah, machine gun Tearing my family apart Yeah, yeah, alright Tearing my family apart (dont you shoot him down) (hes bout to leave here) (dont you shoot him down) (hes got to stay here) (he aint going nowhere) (hes been shot down to the ground) (oh where he cant survive, no, no) Yeah, thats what we dont wanna hear anymore, alright? (no bullets) At least here, huh huh (no guns, no bombs) Huh huh (no nothin, just lets all live and live) (you know, instead of killin) May this be Love or just Confusion born out of Frustration wracked Feelings - of not Being able to Make true physical Love to the Universal gypsy queen True, free expressed music Darling guitar please Rest. amen
Andei3000
Talking about memories, an alltime favourite of mine: LED ZEPP, Over the hills & far away: Hey lady--you got the love I need Maybe more than enough. Oh darling... walk a while with me Ooh, youve got so much... Many times I loved Many times been bitten Many times Ive gazed Along the open road. Many times Ive lied Many times Ive listened Many times Ive wondered How much there is to know. Many dreams come true And some have silver linings I live for my dream And a pocketful of gold. Mellow is the man Who knows what hes been missing Many many men Cant see the open road. Many is a word That only leaves you guessing Guessing bout a thing You really ought to know, ooh! You really ought to know I really ought to know! Oooh, you know I should, you know I should, you know I should...

dluddy
Great post Lani. Along the lines of Iron Butterfly is Grand Funk and American Band....always gets the foot tapping and the memories going On the road for forty days, Last night in little rock put me in a haze. Sweet, sweet connie -- doin her act, She had the whole show and thats a natural fact. Up all night with freddy king, I got to tell you pokers his thing. A-booze n ladies keep me right, As long as we can make it to the show tonight. Chorus Were an american band. Were an american band. Were coming to your town, well help you party it down. Were an american band. Four young chaquitas in omaha, Was waitin for the band to return from the show. Feelin good, feelin right, its saturday night, The hotel detective -- he was out-a-sight. Now, these fine ladies, they had a plan, They was out to meet the boys in the band. They said, come on, dudes, lets get it on, And we proceeded to tear that hotel down. Were an american band, ooo-ooo. Were an american band, ooo-ooo. Were an american band, ooo-ooo. Of course, the one that always stops me in my tracks is when I hear the synth intro to Baba O'Riley by The Who Out here in the fields I fight for my meals I get my back into my living I don't need to fight To prove I'm right I don't need to be forgiven Don't cry Don't raise your eye It's only teenage wasteland Sally ,take my hand Travel south crossland Put out the fire Don't look past my shoulder The exodus is here The happy ones are near Let's get together Before we get much older Teenage wasteland It's only teenage wasteland Teenage wasteland Oh, oh Teenage wasteland They're all wasted! lanikai
And Least I forget .. a song that was played often long, long after it's first release... events are frozen in my mind with songs playing at the time .. The Moody Blues ... far ahead of their time as far as progressive music.. From the Album.. Day's of futures Past Nights in White Satin Nights in white satin, Never reaching the end, Letters Ive written, Never meaning to send. Beauty Id always missed With these eyes before, Just what the truth is I cant say anymore. cause I love you, Yes, I love you, Oh, how, I love you. Gazing at people, Some hand in hand, Just what Im going thru They can understand. Some try to tell me Thoughts they cannot defend, Just what you want to be You will be in the end, And I love you, Yes, I love you, Oh, how, I love you. Oh, how, I love you. Nights in white satin, Never reaching the end, Letters Ive written, Never meaning to send. Beauty Id always missed With these eyes before, Just what the truth is I cant say anymore. cause I love you, Yes, I love you, Oh, how, I love you. jkerouac
You guys are great. I get a contact high just by replaying some of those albums in my mind. I just got me out of my chair to load Jethro Tull's album Stand Up (Digitally Remastered) on the CD player. New Day Yesterday My first and last time with you And we had some fun Went walking through the trees And then I kissed you once Oh, I want to see you soon But I wonder how It was a new day yesterday But it's an old day now Spent a long time looking For a game to play My luck should be so bad now To turn out this way Ah, I had to leave today Just when I thought I'd found you It was a new day yesterday But it's an old day now Spent a long time looking For a game to play My luck should be so bad now To turn out this way Ah, I had to leave today Just when I thought I'd found you It was a new day yesterday It was a new day yesterday It was a new day yesterday But it's an old day now

I still have the vinyl for this... one that always gets me is Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon... and yup, I got vinyl for this too, original as well as the "audiophile release" remaster, still on vinyl. They sound good, too, on the Klipschorns! Brain Damage The lunatic is on the grass. The lunatic is on the grass. Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs. Got to keep the loonies on the path. The lunatic is in the hall. The lunatics are in my hall. The paper holds their folded faces to the floor And every day the paper boy brings more. And if the dam breaks open many years too soon And if there is no room upon the hill And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too I'll see you on the dark side of the moon. The lunatic is in my head. The lunatic is in my head You raise the blade, you make the change You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane. You lock the door And throw away the key There's someone in my head but it's not me. And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear You shout and no one seems to hear. And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes I'll see you on the dark side of the moon. "I can't think of anything to say except... I think it's marvelous! HaHaHa!" jkerouac
The first Springsteen album I ever heard was the The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle .... before he became The Boss. Blew my socks off with songs like this one: INCIDENT ON 57th STREET Spanish Johnny drove in from the underworld last night With bruised arms and broken rhythm in a beat-up old Buick But dressed just like dynamite He tried sellin' his heart to the hard girls over on Easy Street But they sighed "Johnny it falls apart so easy and you know hearts these days are cheap" And the pimps swung their axes and said "Johnny you're a cheater." Well the pimps swung their axes and said "Johnny you're a liar" And from out of the shadows came a young girl's voice said: "Johnny don't cry" Puerto Rican Jane, oh won't you tell me what's your name. I want to drive you down to the other side of town where paradise ain't so crowded, there'll be action goin' down on Shanty Lane tonight All them golden-heeled fairies in a real [censored] fight Pull .38s and kiss the girls good night Oh good night, it's alright Jane Now let them black boys in to light the soul flame We may find it out on the street tonight baby Or we may walk until the daylight maybe Well like a cool Romeo he made his moves, oh she looked so fine Like a late Juliet she knew he'd never be true but then she really didn't mind Upstairs a band was playin', the singer was singin' something about goin' home She whispered, "Spanish Johnny, you can leave me tonight but just don't leave me alone" And Johnny cried "Puerto Rican Jane, word is down the cops have found the vein" Oh them barefoot boys left their homes for the woods Them little barefoot street boys they say homes ain't no good They left the corners, threw away all their switchblade knives and kissed each other good-bye Johnny was sittin' on the fire escape watchin' the kids playin' down the street He called down "Hey little heroes, summer's long but I guess it ain't very sweet around here anymore" Janey sleeps in sheets damp with sweat, Johnny sits up alone and watches her dream on, dream on And the sister prays for lost souls, then breaks down in the chapel after everyone's gone Jane moves over to share her pillow but opens her eyes to see Johnny up and putting his clothes on She says "Those romantic young boys All they ever want to do is fight" Those romantic young boys They're callin' through the window "Hey Spanish Johnny, you want to make a little easy money tonight?" And Johnny whispered: Good night, it's all tight Jane I'll meet you tomorrow night on Lover's Lane We may find it out on the street tonight baby Or we may walk until the daylight maybe And then of course there's that girl Rosalita that we all lusted after.... And Grand Funk, the 3 early albums of theirs before they went mainstream really are good. I went to a boarding school for high school. Typical thin dormitory walls. The guys next door put Grand Funk on their record players and replayed them over and over and over and over again.... even when they weren't in their room. We almost tore the wall down just to turn it off. Have to admit that I've never been able to listen to Grand Funk since that early "traumatic" experience. I wonder which of my favorite albums those guys can't stand due to overexposure??? By the way, I've always had a fond spot for Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother. lanikai
But no one can forget ....I remember concerts where smoke would pour out of every door of the "Honolulu International Center Arena" .. now the "Blaisdell Arena" .. and even the Police wouldn't bother.. man times have changed but I remember James Taylor .. (one of many) .. so laid back.. and then another one at the Waikiki shell.. under the stars.. everything was so care free.. doobie.. surf ... doobie.. surf... James Taylor You've Got A Friend Lyrics Songwriters: N/A When you're down and troubled and you need a helping hand and nothing whoa nothing is going right. Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there to brighten up even your darkest nights. You just call out my name and you know where ever I am I'll come running oh yeah baby to see you again. Winter spring summer or fall all you have to do is call and I'll be there yeah yeah yeah. You've got a friend. If the sky above you should turn dark and full of clouds and that old north wind should begin to blow Keep your head together and call my name out loud and soon I will be knocking upon your door. You just call out my name and you know where ever I am I'll come running to see you again. Winter, spring, summer or fall all you got to do is call and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend? People can be so cold. They'll hurt you and desert you. Well they'll take your soul if you let them. Oh yeah, but don't you let them. You just call out my name and you know wherever I am I'll come running to see you again. Oh babe, don't you know that, Winter spring summer or fall, Hey now, all you've got to do is call. Lord, I'll be there, yes I will. You've got a friend. You've got a friend. Ain't it good to know you've got a friend. Ain't it good to know ain't it good to know aint it good to know you've got a friend. and don't forget the "Doobie Brothers" ...
