Ztech Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 If it is indeed in 98% condition then $23k isn't a bad deal no? Heck he's local so maybe I should do a recon???
cc Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Looks gen to me Lever tip and movement is legit.
peepshow Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Why would you suspect it ISN'T gen?
gavidoc Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Flared balance wheels are also on Gen 6497's. The ETA movement data sheets show the flared balance wheel.
ricardo Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 i thought that one of the major flaws from the asian 6497's was flared balancewheel, didn't know eta 6497's had that also
chris5264 Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Wow,,,that is crazy,,,couldn't you pick up a fiddy for around 9,000 (usd) just a few years ago?
DuDro Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Even on the gens, the lever arm is not flush with the CG when closed...
peepshow Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) i thought that one of the major flaws from the asian 6497's was flared balancewheel, didn't know eta 6497's had that also It's a "tell" that the movement is Asian based, not Swiss based. Since our reps use the low-beat 6497-1 (straight spokes) if they are Swiss based movements. The Asian movements are replicas of the 6497-2 hi-beat movement, hence the higher beat rate and the flared spokes on the balance wheel. Swiss 6497-2 are VERY hard to source as eubaches (stand-alone movements not in watches), and quite expensive. You were on the right track, just a little off target. t Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 it is a mythos that 6497-2 y movements are very rare and difficult to get it is not true 6497-2 movements are DOUBLE price from 6497-1... this alone is the reason why most watch brands go for the -1 instead of -2... why should they pay the DOUBLE price for the minimal higher beat? But when you sell watches for $5.000 - $20.000 with this movement like PANERAI... sure you can pay the +$100 for the higher beat movement
