Broadband help AOL UK

My ISP is currently AOL UK and since about 1:00 PM GMT time today, secure websites such as AOL.co.uk, e-bay, hotmail, facebook and a handful of others won't load up, or take very long to show a half loaded web page with words and pictures in the wrong place.

I did a bit of googling and read something about the MTU value might be behind this. I then remembered that a couple of days back I was playing around with MTU settings on a program called TCPoptimizer and changed the value from 1492 to 1500. So then I read some posts by people on several forums who said the MTU should be set to 1400 for AOL users. I change the MTU to 1400 but this has no affect. I then change the MTU back again to 1492 and still the websites won't load.

Is this anything to do with MTU or are AOL servers playing up?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you using the AOL browser? If so, that'll be the issue. If you installed the stuff on the AOL CD, you're probably using their browser.

Change to Firefox.

Oh, and no, it's not MTU. If it worked one day and not the next, and nothing else has changed, it's got to be their stupid proxy/infrastrucure.

I use Firefox. We've been with AOL for over 5 years and haven't used their browser once.

At first, I thought it might be a problem with our router (Belkin F5D7632-4), so I connected up the ADSL modem that AOL gave us when we first switched over to broadband, the BT Voyager 100, dialed up and still the same problem!

That was yesterday. As of today the sites still are not loading up. Looks like I might have to get in touch with customer services.
