Watch this space - I've decided to give it a couple of days and see what happens when I get my own insurance involved. I'll be going car hunting at the weekend (can't afford the AMG E55 without the insurance, though, dammit....).
alphakazi Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 ah don't worry - AMG is a nice kit but not really necessary - neither is that big engine http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c..._mileage=100000
greg_r Posted November 3, 2008 Author Report Posted November 3, 2008 ah don't worry - AMG is a nice kit but not really necessary - neither is that big engine happy shopping I'll admit I was considering buying a cheapie as a stop-gap on the basis that I won't lose much in depreciation if I decide to go AMG later. Sound familiar? A well-regarded Merc specialist I know has a near-mint E320 Avantgarde for not a lot of dough. Might go see it at the weekend....
JohnG Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 Good on fuel economy, and very reasonable price second hand.
onzenuub Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 Buy a Smart, no worries about fuelcosts or parkingplace.

greg_r Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 Okay, Hijacking my thread back... The insurance company has confirmed that they are rejecting the claim for my car. "Act of God", they're calling it. Therefore I've just got my own insurance company involved - wish I'd done so at the beginning, as these guys believe in customer service. Anyhow, I'm getting yet another courtesy car next week. They're taking my own car away on Tuesday and have promised to give me a final decision on whether they will repair it or write it off within 14 days. Because they will be taking action against the original insurance company, they've warned me that it might take a while to get the financial side sorted out, but so long as I know for sure they're going to write off my existing car (and have taken it off the road - it's still sitting at my place, so still has to be insured and taxed), I can go buy a Benz and haggle the toss with them later. I'm beginning to believe I might actually have the worst of this sorted out by the end of this month. Wish me luck!
trailboss Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 YOUR THREAD??? Oh, , , yeah, , , 'cause. Umm, thats great man. We're all like, happy for you. And stuff. Now, where were we? Ahh YES! Wipped cream and arses! Continue! Col.
