brian7836 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 What is the purpose of the swan neck?
hyster Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 It holds in place and allows adjustment of the regulator arm of the movement, as far as I know anyway.
chubbchubb Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 As Hyster said, it facilitates fine regulation of the movement.
PAMman Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 The 'swan neck' is a spring that places pressure on one side of the regulator needle and the pressure on the other side comes from a small screw. Therefore adjusting the screw moves the regulator in smaller increments than would normally be possible without this system. It's functional and also pretty.
pete2528ca Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 swan's necks also make very good soup and stock.
