Ronin Posted January 15, 2009 Report Share Posted January 15, 2009 So I am wondering... My only experience with a Bi-directional bezel comes from a Russian Vostok watch. It is HORRIBLE. The slightest brush of a coat or shirt sleeve rotates it off of 12. I attribute this to Cold War crappy Russian technology. That said. How is the tension / resistance on some of the vintage reps? Nanuq Posted January 16, 2009 Report Share Posted January 16, 2009 The correct design has a snap-fit bezel and a washer beneath it. The washer should be slightly bent, and that provides upward tension pushing the bezel up against its retainer. If the washer is bent too much it will be very hard to turn; likewise if it's too flat (or missing) the bezel won't stay in place. When it's adjusted right you'll have to push down on the bezel to turn it... and that's pretty safe. Remember it was designed to time dives, and in those circumstances, correct elapsed times, as measured with the bezel, are critical. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
