ubiquitous
Amongst my very small list of dress watches, I'd love to get my hands on one of these! The simplicity is just lovely to me. Best of all, the lack of complications should make this one fairly simple to rep Perhaps even in solid 18k 750 gold. Perhaps not everyone's taste, but I dig it. thomasng
I agree it is easy to rep, but unfortunately they will never come close to replicating the beautiful movement housed in these babies, which is a big part of the watch. I handled 15 or so Langes today in Hong Kong and love every single one of them, the attention to detail in each of them and the superior craftmanship in every piece, but the price speaks for itself. ubiquitous
Well, nothing can be done about the movement. This we all know. But, I still love the forward facing design... And would gladly wear it to formal events.

Similar experience, once you had a real L&S in your hands, nothing comes even close. Lange & Sohne is probably one of the leading upper upper tier brands. Their movements are just INCREDIBLE. And it is impossible, at least today, to replicate the finish and attention to details these pieces show. I had two in my hands years ago in Zurich and the memory still lingers... Pricing is steep, an 1815 can go for $13-15K and a Langematik for over $17-20K. They released a limited edition (Basel 2006) perpetual crono in platinum...I'm salivating all over my keyboard...(where are my pills???? ) Alex
Quarks
My vote goes to Breguet La Tradition ; it is no A.Lange & Sohne but it sends chills down my spine...
alligoat
About a year and a half ago I picked up some "moonphase" watches on ebay for about $40-50 each. An A. Lange & Sohne and a couple of Patek Phillipes. The moonphase is fake, but the watches are fun to wear- gold plated with nice leather bands. The chinese movements keep good time and they make nice dress watches. I also like the PP Calatrava, it makes a nice statement as an understated dress watch. But for those of us who money actually has meaning, I'd also love to see a rep of their new three hander. Every detail on that rep has been repped to a very high degree of fit and finish on previous lange reps--the second hand, the central recess on the dial, and even a very similar 3 piece case. C'mon makers--this one's a no brainer!

C'mon makers--this one's a no brainer! Yes, the 1815 should be an easier replica, but that does not mean it will be accurate. I do have a flyback crono with a Lemania movement and it is as good as it gets for replicas...but not even close to the gen. The subdials are at 3-9 whereas in the gen are at 3:45 and 8:15 (or the other way around)...that means that they would have to rework the whole movement to accomodate the change...(Lange's movement originality!). I consider it a very nice fantasy watch (*not a popular brand like Rolex) and I use it often. Is it a great replica watch? yes. Would I buy another Lange replica? no. I considered (and wrote it off) as part of my learning curve on replicas. You are right, leave the finish to the germans...maybe one day there would be a german replica maker...though I doubt it because I picture a german jail like a very cold and damp place with a big guy named Otto who would make you his frau every other night... Still Lange's are Lange's...just in their own category! Cheers Alex

Why spend all that effort on a watch that is so blatantly unreppable--even if they were inclined to modify the movement a la the daytona, they couldn't do it on the seagull "Venus" 175. If anyone expects the fit and finish on a lange rep to approach even that of an oem Panerai, let alone a genuine lange, they're going to be sorely dissapointed. I guess a super-anal retentive with skills could buy the ss version of the rep, refit and polish the parts by hand the way some people do w/ Rolexes, and then have a high quality plating job done, but even that's a lost cause. Anyone who knows you can't buy a Lange down at the Fashion Time in the Mall will know it's a rep in 3 seconds.

Here's a couple of images of the datograph perpetual in platinum that debuted in Basel 2006...look and salivate...this is wrist porn list price $137,000 Maybe factories do better repping 4000 genuine pieces than high high high end ones... thomasng
Well, there's one thing that could solve the problem, is to install a closed back on the Lange reps of the Langematik and the 1815. Closed backs do exist for these models as far as I know, they can be custom made with some artistic designs, but they cost as much as the watch itself. Of course, archibald and Alextor repeats my point, that a Lange rep will NEVER hold a candle to the genuine no matter what you do to it.
TwoTone
Picked up last year here on the board a Cartier Santos 100 TT with full Rose Gold and an ETA movement. Simply love this watch and it wears well with my nicest suits...
Logan
A Lange 1 still rates in the top 2-3 genuine watches I'd buy. I've handled a couple and the movement is just incredible. I would love to see a good rep.. just to be able to "pretend" but I agree, nothing comes close to the real deal.
