Rolexman
I bought a nice Sea-Dweller for my dad yesterday but when he wears it his whole arm becomes red en itchy (only where the case sits). I find this very strange because the watch is SS right? Can there still be nickel in it? When he wears his Pulsar, no problems at all but when the SD touches his skin in a matter of seconds his arm's red..... Did anybody ever experienced something simular? fitmic
Been there - done that. I don't know wheter it's nickel or not. What can be done, is to use some clear nail polish on the back of the watch. The problem dissapair! Good luck.

Bingo, nice thick coat of clear nail polish does the trick in every case I have heard including mine. Yes, 316L SS has nickel in it.

Linder
Your Dad is probably very allergic to nickel as I am. 316L stainless contains 10% - 14% nickel while the genuine 904L stainless Rolex uses contains 23% - 28% nickel so it would be even worse. The allergic reaction is usually brought on by a combination of the heat and sweat. It seems strange how quickly the reaction is brought on. Perhaps try taking the bracelet off and cleaning it thoroughly with soap and water and then applying lots of clear nail polish. Afterwards, see if he can wear it a little at a time in a cool, dry environment and go from there. Either way, it will most likely not be an issue after the weather cools off. Until then, there is always titanium =( Good luck! Edited July 27, 2006 by Linder

Linder
Oh, I will add that the nail polish does not completely do the trick for me either. However, I do think I am starting to slowly get more "used" to the nickel and was not breaking out as badly as I first was. Benedryl helped as well. Rolexman
Thanks guys... It could indeed be the heat and sweat causing the reaction. Edited July 27, 2006 by Rolexman
thomasng
It happens to me in the hot Hong Kong weather as well, so my solution is just to wrap a small cloth on my wrist and then put the watch on. Titanium is a solution to this problem, you won't get a allergic reaction as such.
ubiquitous
Same. High heat, sweat, and nickel makes for bad chemistry here. But not quite as big of an issue with 316 SS (just 904L)...
Chronus
I've had the same problem, and have switched to titanium for the summer... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...mp;hl=done+with
