Stephane
Hi Guys, I have had a virus infection (allthough I'm fully protected). My computer carry only official Microsoft programs with licenses. Everything is patched/Updated as soon as needed on this computer. Anyway, here is my question: I formated the HD, re-installed all programs from scratch (no image restore, no recovery feature) and now I have a problem with Microsoft Outlook. It's part of Office 2003 which is 100% installed on the computer. When I shut down Outlook by clicking the red cross in the window, the main program window is closed but not the process itself. 1) The Icon stays in the bottom right tray (which is NOT correct) 2) In the Task Manager, Applications, Outlook is closed (which IS correct) 3) In the Task Manager, Process, Outlook is still active (which is NOT correct) I already experienced that years ago, but can't remember what I did to fix it. Of course I uninstalled Office, and re-installed it, but the problem is still the same. It is a real pain. I sincerely hope someone can help me here Thanks for your time, All the best Stephane
Ronin
Did you reapply the Office Service Packs after reinstallation? http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/download...0798601033.aspx Scroll down for Office SP3.
P4GTR
Steph that just sounds like a setting in outlook. Go into settings and look for something to check/uncheck such as "when closed minimize to system tray" or "completely close outlook when prompted" etc. Im sorry im not in front of a system with that program to find it for you. redwatch
Steph, I am in front of Outlook 2003 now. I don't see any settings as P4GTR mentioned. I would be that, even though you are virus protected, you may not be spyware protected. Most of the virus software simply cannot keep up with the spyware and adware programs that viciously attack the PC. I would download ad-aware from lavasoft. You can get it from download.com for free. That is a great program and once you have it running and installed, you will be surprised, if not down right shocked at the amount of stuff installed on your computer. Note: if you already have ad-aware, or something like it, do not think that it is magically going to prevent spyware from being installed. It needs to be updated and run on a regular basis. It is not automatic by any means. While spyware may not be a virus, it can still wreak havoc on your system and do things just like you described. Hope that helps! If not, don't hesitate to PM me or ask any other questions. RED
its_urabus
I have experienced this for years and can't fix it. I can even have multiple sessions of outlook listed in the processes with it not running. Let m know if you fix it cause I never could.

Stephane
First I would like to say this is a great community. No surprise though Thanks to all for your help. I checked everything you suggested and here is what fixed my problem. (Funny how a watch forum give more options than a software forum This is what fixed my problem: In Outlook 2003 and earlier, add-ins are found on the Tools, Options, Other tab. Click the Advanced Options button. Click COM Add-ins button and uncheck add-ins to disable. While most add-ins are listed under COM add-ins, some may be in Add-in manager. Return to Outlook. Once again, thanks a lot guys, and a special thank to RedWatch
