F1 in acrimonious split.

So the team owners assoc (FOTA) have had enough of Max & Bernie, and are now going to do their own thing!

Probably not a bad thing.

However I see some sizeable lawsuits in the wind.... Bernie won't take this lying down, and he claims 3 of the teams have already contracted for 2010, which they dispute.

Reckon the lawyers will have a field day.

And it would be interesting to know the clauses in the various contracts with the circuits

Can see some fun and games being played out over this little stoush.

Watch out for the fireworks, it will be a big bang.

I say good riddance to both of those pompous, demented [censored].

I concur. Happened to meet 'ol Napolean himself. Was at first in awe, but saw what an arrogant sleazy lusty leprechaun he was, lusting after my female companion! I was so disgusted. Dude is kidding himself. Probably needs intravenous viagra to sustain anything! Ugh, even my friend was suitably mortified!!

So long Adolf and napolean! Don't let the door hit u in the ass on the way out, but please do take a looong walk off a short bridge!

<_<

Problem is, is that F1, ie, Bernie and Max have contracts with all the circuits that the F1 circus (read, procession) go to. So if FOTA want to split and start a new faction, ala American champcar and Champkart (or what ever the feck it's called!?) they would have to try and book different tracks, problem with that is that the FIM will undoubtedly have some form of contract with the other tracks. Be it with Nascar, champcar, MotoGP, World SuperBikes hell Radio controled car racing, they will still have leverage with pretty much every half wothwhile track in Europe at least, also Australia, Africa now that Kyalami has come back out to play (man I love that track, full throttle on a Superbike down the Mineshaft, Awesome!!) Asia and most of the Far East. I'm not sure how much clout they have in the US, maybe members there can help us out, but I know for sure they have p1ssed off a lot of people with the whole F1 circus at Indy I think it was, when the tyres that were provided wouldn't last the race and drivers pulled out on safety grounds. Bernie, et al, went nuts calling the drivers for everything, drivers association had words and suddenly the track and the American version of the FIM, the AMA, were called for everything.

As OS has said, this is going to be a lawyers delight, it will be like birthdays, Christmas, everything come all at oncce!! Can you even imagine the amount of money that would be involved in a case like this, just onlawyers alone!!?? It will be staggering!!

Let the crows rip and tear and the vultures feast!! Maybe at the end of it we will get racing worth watching again, rather than a line of cars just going very fast one after another and heavens forbid someone should overtake!! Watch MotoGP or World SuperBikes!! See proper racing at it's best!! Nothing like finishing a race with someone elses tyre rubber on your leathers and their paint on your bike!!

Sixx :bones:

I think all F1 rule changes that Max has introduced have been counterproductive.

The most insane rule chages were:

1. You change the engine = the racer loses 10 grid positions after the qualifying

Why the hell they're punishing the driver for the manufacturers' reliability problems? They should only take the team points away... we want the fastest and best driver to win, not the one who has the most reliable car.

2. The qualifying

It's a snoozefest and it's not about the absolutely fastest guy anymore. We never know who's actually the faster guy in the team due to different car weight and pit tactics. Bring back those days of Senna vs. Prost... or even Hakkinen vs. Schumacher...and make the raw speed and driver skill count. There were some breathtaking qualifying battles back in the early 2000's still, like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viwllFnipds.

3. Everyone remembers what kind of fiasco the last years' safety car rule was (you couln't pit when the SC was out). Insane!

I could list a lot more things like this... all these have been organized and "masterminded" by Max. Bernie only cares about money but it's Max who has been very damaging to F1. On top of that this moron got caught pants down playing some perverse nazi games... nuff' said!

PS: The "gold medal" system that Bernie wanted through this year was the final proof that this guy is demented. It was the stupidest thing I've ever heard... why didn't they just go back to the old points system 10-6-4-3-2-1, which was the best?

I am a little bemused.

In my world here in Oz, all reporting of this has dropped off the radar.

It is like a censorship net has been placed over the whole affair

Surely Max & Bernie don't wield THAT much power

Am interested to know if it still getting hot press in other parts of the world.

On our news last night, a spokesman for the Melbourne GP, said a few words which were to throw oil on troubled waters, and basically said it will be sorted. Then the previously high levels of reporting ceased.

Sure- I can still find info if I Google worldwide, but not too much here in Oz!

WTF.

Weird indeed. Our this morning's sports pages are FULL of this stuff.

I think Max thought the bluffing would work, but F1 without Ferrari, McLaren and other top 6 teams (and top drivers) is dead. Of course the "Dynamic Duo" can try to create an exciting season with Williams and Force India alone... good luck! :D

I don't get it either - there's actual news in sport worldwide, and they go out of their way to generate fluff news about AFL and NRL.

The headlines on Fox Sports are....

"Fraser ready for Jolly good test": AFL player says upcoming match will be competitive (so not actual news then)

"'Very Drunk' Fittler in hot water": Rugby League coach knocks on wrong hotel door by mistake. Wow. Reportedly 'half-naked', which is not really a big deal for a guy when it's the top half and you're wearing shorts.

Nothing there about Formula 1 at all. There was next-to-nothing about the World Cup this week either. It's bizarre.

Especially when Melbourne hosts the opening Formula 1 Grand Prix, you'd expect a mention.

Williams, Force India and Lada could make for an entertaining tournament, you never know :p

Yeah Lada sounds amazing... and didn't Bernie always want a Russian driver? :D
