  2. He's saying that the dial is what he looks at for the most part to authenticate a rolex watch

  3. Hey vinniegeorge138, I just got an email this moring saying the same thing about the watch not being available. I was also offered a refund but decided to go with a replacement Omega Speedmaster instead. Hopefully we can call it even because of the troubles. I also know of another site that has the 6538 and they're actualy a trusted dealer here. http://www.ttw888.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_11&products_id=6694 Until we're ready to start building our own, this may be our last resort.

  4. Every time I have to go to the hospital for a serious scan I wear this watch that I got from my RWG friends hoping that everything will still be unchanged. Let's wait until Monday Carpe Diem Cats Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

  5. "It's so weird that such a famous watch is one of the harder ones to find good reps of." That's one of the reasons why it's fun for me to make them, the reps are not good and so it's a real challenge to get one right. I would just wait for the better versions to be available again and then get akira or Daz to work their magic and make it better. You'll need a bit more money but you have some time to save up

  6. I miss my MBW 1665 Great White that I sold recently. She was really perfect... Luckily, I sold it to a fellow Aussie! Over the years, I have tended to upgrade. I went from having only 1 gen to selling it to fund multiple OOTB reps. Over time, I've become too nitpicky that I now focus on high-end Frankens and a few gens. It's crazy how I ended up here to save a few thousand bucks and years later I have spent more on watches than I ever imagined even in my wildest dreams!

  7. There's only one watch I regret selling. It was a TW Best 36mm Royal Oak Nick Faldo I purchased from River back in '04. Here's one I had in more recent years; I had to do some refinishing on it to get it looking decent. I don't recall why I parted with it a second time

  8. He's likely talking about the difference between the Zenith El Primero 400 (36,000bph) and the Rolex 4030 (modified EP400 at 28,800bph).

  9. You have to differentiate: getting called out on the streets/office vs getting called out on the web. It is or would be an rare occasion to run into a Rolex (...) WIS on the streets who then gets into a conversation with you and examines your watch (and call you out). However on the web there are thousands of watch geeks and probably hundreds of WIS. And about the franken watches: a franken is a rep with some degree of gen parts. Adding a gen insert to - let's say a TC Sub - makes it better, but it's just a small detail, as well as a gen crystal, it "just" adds some clarity and the correct LEC. Of course a gen dial is the way to go if you're not on a tight budget. But you still have a rep case and/or rep bracelet. But there are frankens that you can't recognize as such (from a picture). Like a good franken Datejust; you can get a gen case for under $200 a gen dial for about $100 and a gen Jubilee for $200 sometimes, add an ETA voila. So the exterior is all gen, you would have to open it to realize there is an ETA inside. And what I noticed is that there are so many guys on gen forum who think they are THE WIS, but know very little. I've seen sooo many frankens posted on TRF and about 20 people congratulated until one person realizes it's fake.

  12. In speaking on personal perspective, the term 'franken' used to mean (to me) 'a non genuine watch comprised of some or all genuine parts'; at minimum, a genuine dial was a requisite for me to consider a watch as a 'franken'. Anymore... I don't really even bother with the idea of such labels. I think the hobby, in all it's many facets has different meanings and offerings to us all as individuals. Some of us build watches to look as close and exact to genuine as possible; I fall into this category as I find the process to be challenging with the end result very rewarding on a personal level. Some want to customize what they have to make their watches unique and oft times completely different than what the standard fare of any given watch may have started as. There are some out there that like to combine parts from several different manufacturers to make something truly unique and one off. In a way, perhaps all of these approaches could result in something termed as a frankenstein. And really, you have different degrees of each school of thought as well, from mild to extreme. So, I think the interest, and perhaps end goal is just to have fun with it. Make it whatever you want it to be. There really aren't any defined rules regarding the matter, nor should there be
