  4. I became the proud owner of a gen Cermaic Sub on Tuesday and thought I would do a couple of comparison shots for you. One note on the gen though, I did intend to sell this one as I bought below retail but this watch appeals to me more and more as I look at it and wear it! The fit and finish is much higher than the model it replaces. Also you do get used to it's bigger appearance. The clasp and bracelet are very impressive and the Ar'ed cyclops is brilliant in practise. Anyway onto the comparison. I'm not one for long reviews but the biggest differences between the 2 are as follows: Crown guards are shorter on the gen making the crown appear more proud of the case than it is. The bezel is too high and the teeth are not high enough or deep enough. Rehaut is not as tall on the gen which gives the crown a hiher position compared to the rep. Crystal not as crisp but that is normal on rep Rollies and no AR on cyclops. The date font on BK's datewheel is very good with no noticable difference. Hour markers have a rims that are too thick and also are slightly smaller than the gen. Hands on the rep are bigger in size. Bezel pearl is too dark on rep but the bezel finish is pretty good. figures are slighlty brighter o the gen watch. Gen insert is flatter. Case is not quite as crisp on the edges(fairly normal on reps though). Bracelet is quite good with quite nice SEL's. Lume is more blue on gen but the rep is not bad. I forgot to do a lume shot for you so I will add this later. All in all if you did not have them side by side you would only really notice the thick bezel and markers straight away and the rep is a nice watch in it's own right. Only the pure beautiful finish of the real watch shadows it when along side. Onto some pics!

  5. My first experience with reps was during a business trip to China. I went to the infamous "copy market" in Shanghai and bought a few reps for gag gift because the quality of those were terrible. Skip ahead fifteen years and I rediscovered replica watches. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of many top notch super reps that I honestly could not readily distinguish from my genuine. Oh, there are "tells", I am sure, but they are only visible to the well trained eyes. For the past few weeks, I have been browsing RWI and this forum, reading and more reading. I already bought a couple reps from M2M at RWI and will do the same here. For my next rep, I am eyeing a pre-owned TC or BK sub. Eventually, I want to get into modding my own rep. RW is definitely becoming a hobby.

  6. A few years ago I ran across a gold 118208 with the white dial- it was on ebay for a low price- maybe $11.9K- can't remember, but it caught my eye. It looked nice but it appeared the oyster band was slightly stretched. At any rate, I wasn't ready to buy. I had built an 1803 from parts- a 1556 movement with a redone dial in a phong modified 16000 case I called it the Sportman's DD, since it was an ss case and bracelet. I wear it as a semi-beater and it's done well. But alas, I signed a big O&G lease this year- I'm not an O&G guy- I just have some property from my grandfather- and with a windfall I decided to cut loose. I found a nice 118208 which turned out to be in very nice shape and I bought it I got a good deal on it and the pleasant surprise was that it was in almost mint condition. So then the next thing I did was set out to build a rep of it to wear around- save some wear and tear on the gen. So I went to MMM and told him what I wanted. I had a decent 118238 case, but it got screwed up by USPS in shipping, but luckily the old Swiss eta movement survived. Matt got me a gen DD white dial with gold sticks and put it in a DJ 116208 case, I put the old YM oyster bracelet on it and it look pretty good. But it wasn't what I really wanted. So I went to Andrew/Trusty Time and ordered a 118208 which had a gold stick dial and told him that I wanted that watch with a white stick dial. A few days later he came back and said the factory didn't have that dial. So I asked for the watch with the white lume dial. He was able to get that dial so I went with it So my plan at that point was to swap dial/movement and end up with a nice 118208 rep and another 118208 so so watch. The gen dial/swiss 2836-2 fit in the Trusty case/ bracelet and it's on the right in this photo. The oyster bracelets are nice- clasp on the rep isn't gen spec but I hope it holds up One last note- rep gold is as good color-wise as the gen- please forgive my photo talents- any variations are due to my picture taking. The Trusty dial ended up in the MMM Dj case and it looks like a good beater or I may sell it to recoup a few dollars.... But all in all, it's nice to have a gen and a few reps to help keep the wear and tear off the gen!

  7. I was wondering, with these 2 watches: 1. ROLYM112 - YachtMaster Ref.116622 SS/SS Rolesium BP A3135 Mod. 2. ROLYM093C - 2016 YM Noob Mens SS/SS Rolesium SA3135. For the movement, they both say 25J. I assume this means 25 jewels. How many jewels does the genuine Rolex have? I did a search for this info but I could not find anything. I even downloaded Rolex's DateJust 41 PDF brochure. If I were to wear the above 2 clones on a daily basis, how long do you think they would last? Just curious. One thing, I think the Chinese are getting better at making clones. LOL. Someday it may be impossible for anyone except for expert jewelers to know the difference.

  11. The SA3135 is a better than the A3135 (which is just a modified 2836-2 clone). Having said that, both can die within days. Quite a few people swear by the SA3135 and find it a fantastic time keeper that lasts. The problem is you can't easily source parts, so if it dies you need to replace the whole movement.

  14. Finished my GMT II project using the new CHS case,Gen dial, gen hands, Gen Crystal, Gen Bezel assem and insert, Gen crown and tube, gen datewheel and a yuki/3135/3186 hybrid with a number of gen parts to make it function exactly like the gen 3186, even has the gen 3186 bridge installed for accuracy ? The movement work was done by the master himself Misiekped and amazing work indeed as per usual !! Thanks !! It was a fun watch to build but a pit of a pain in the ass to mount the movement in the case correctly and in the end used a Panerai bezel gasket to use as a thin spacer to keep the movement in place and it worked perfectly !! And looks great ! Anyways here are some shots of the finished product.

  16. Oh man. Love it. Forgot what being 21 was like. What exactly are you trying to fake here? The luxury lifestyle or confidence? If the goal is trying to fake the luxury lifestyle...I'm afraid the watch isn't going to be enough...I size people up by things that can't be sourced from Chinese websites and assure you most others do as well...for instance...I don't look at just the style of clothing someone wears...but how it's cared for and worn. Is the person wearing the standard no brainer Rolex sub, or do they know watches enough and shop at the places that will help them pick a model that isnt rep'd by every Chinese factory? Are their clothes properly tailored? Pressed? Are the soles of their shoes clean and fresh? How bout laces? Are they worn? When going out .... does the style and brand of bank card one pays with match the "lifestyle" they rep? Does the person know the things that one should certainly know if living "the life"? It's so transparent when someone tries to fake the "luxury" lifestyle...because luxury isn't about what someone wears...it's about the confidence that someone shows when they don't need to prove anything to anyone. See...the last poster was trying to re-assure you that's it's OK to have the lifestyle of a recent college grad/intern. And in being OK with it...and perhaps having on a Tudor or Seiko...which is a perfectly respectable watch for anyone who's either made it, or on their way to "making it"...it shows that you have the confidence and know things you "should" know in order TO make it. Maybe you should perform a test...fake being confident until you are. Buy a quartz Nixon for $35 at an outlet...wear it into your new job and every time someone notices...which will be about 200x more than they would notice a Rolex...tell them you hate it, but can't yet afford a Rolex. Tell them you plan to work hard...that you plan to save up...despite your penchant for loving the "luxury lifestyle"...and that one day, when you've "made it"...you plan to put the Nixon in a watch box and save it for your kids to see...so that you can tell them how once upon a time you actually thought it was important what watch a person wore. Then...come back onto the forum...and tell us about how you view people who come to these forums and make their first post ever about how they intend to impress people by "faking it till they make" it with a watch. Good luck dude. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. Sorry fellas, not been around in a while.. been back at work offshore, then had to rush home last week as my fiancée went into labour 5 days early.. been a hell of a ride the past few weeks lol @Jaketime , to answer your question, I used the new CHS noob case and although the winding stem sits very very slightly off, the 3186 fits well. You just need to make up the spacer to centralize the movement in the case. I modified a crystal gasket from a 44mm Panerai to fill the gap and it worked out perfect. There is obviously some trimming etc. To be done, but it works. I will be changing this to a metal spacer when I can get someone to machine one for me as I don't have the precision lathe to do the work on my own. You cannot not go wrong with Misiekped ! He does amazing work ! And if you are not used to manipulating and fabricating things to work in watches, you are best to have someone who's in the know, to assemble it for you as it will save you a lot of headaches. Cheers ! And good luck with the watch ! You will not regret it! I've had mine side by side with the gen and it's pretty much perfect !

  18. If I only had 2 grand in my bank account and didn't want to wear a watch too far outside of my social class, I would purchase a Tudor Black Bay ZF V4 Rep for ~$300 from InTime. I would then promptly thank my lucky stars that I still had $1700 in savings and be grateful for such a kickass Rep.

  24. Creativity and trying new stuff and usually finding awesome solutions is why I consider RJ to be the best modder/builder doing it on a hobby basis. Also, if he helps you with a build... Take it easy, remember that nothing worth anything here in life comes easy.

  28. Seriously dig this watch ever since I picked it up a few years ago. Serviced a few months ago again due to the flyback having too much torque! Odd problem I suppose. I have some spare parts for this watch that I am thinking about customizing.

  38. They look great. That said... The strap market is saturated. China and Vietnam are pumping out $80-$150 straps and selling them for $40 shipped. You have a better chance of gaining a foothold if you hand stitched them. Price is the deciding factor not only for the buyers but the maker. One day you wake up and realize what you're doing is arguably slave labor. just .2c from someone that went through it..
