  5. What do we think about just having a Wristie thread in perpetuity? The participation level on a daily basis for a new thread each day feels a bit lackluster. It may be cool to have them all consolidated. Just a thought. I'm wearing this, but the way.

  6. If you have clearance issues you can remove the DW as it's not needed on an OP.

  7. "The way I look at watches like this is you can either build a franken or buy at the top end from a very reputable seller." Yep. I go with option 1. Frankenstein would be the only way to go at current prices. Q...Why? A1...Because I do not trust 'dealers/sellers' no matter what. I have known too many and most of them are slicker'n a newborn maggot. A 2...Because there is no telling where the market will go. A 3...Because we do not know how good the counterfeiters really are. The $130k '100% original and genuine' silly-milly sub sold at auction last year just might be a knockoff and get busted. That would kill the market. Knowing what I know (and it ain't much), I have no doubt whatsoever that it is possible to make brand new 'old' rolex watches today. Just look at how close we can get for $3k or less. How close could we get for $20k or $25k? Prettydamclose is my guess. You take a highly experienced vintage rolex guy with a machine shop and plenty of time (no wife/GF chewing on him 24/7, no cell phone/internet addiction), and he could surely crank out a perfecto case (starting with available offerings) in a month or two that would pass for 45 years old. The remaining hurdles are the dial/hands/bez/insert. No doubt there are 'specialists' somewhere making them too. Probably out west somewhere right now...pizzing on dials to age them in the desert sun.

  10. i own a black bay v2 rep. ive gone in two different oceans snorkeling, and diving in a chlorine pool without any issues whatsoever. i did grease the case back and crown gasket before any of this and always try to do so every year before i know im going somewhere with swimming. i also always rinse off any sea water or heavily treated water with ordinary tap water after wards. i think youll be ok as long as the gasket is indeed greased and the case back is closed properly. not over tight, or under tight. and it has to be said, make sure you crown is screwed down. ive seen plenty of people with their crowns unscrewed unbeknownst to them.

  11. where the case was made. there are a couple of case makers from vn. MQ, search "vintage watches mq" and phong of jewelry and watch. phong being most used and commonly referred to as a "vietnam case", and probably your best bet for highest end reproduction case. cost $1,200 USD and up

  13. That's a good questions. The washer has fitted to the movement side the movement spacer. This allows it to clear the DW same as it would with the dial. The trick here is to have a washer that's so thin it doesn't affect the stem or hand height significantly. I think if you look closely you'll see the movement spacer in the pic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Also...the watch I franken'd came with a DG2813 (similar to a miyota mvmt) so can't speak to the reps w eta/clones. Let me know how it goes. Also...gen crown fit mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk One more thing....since it's a no date dial...you could take off the DW if you were having clearance issues. 16. Quite a bit of difference in the bezel and crystal area and the rep lugs look a tad chunkier. Maybe I should write a program - nah... But, those observations aside, it's a nice looking watch!

  20. Apparently Rolex.com had enough pulled the plug. This was after a newbie did the AD with his Regmariner and never was called out.

  25. Easy story...that's a gen AP introduced by a rep Legend. Must be an older Legend rep because the actual Legend converted from an AP to a Rolex guy some month ago

  29. Strange. I have an email saying they WILL provide QC photos only after a cash Western Union payment in full is made to a 'Yu Matsumoto'. In another email, they claim they have an employee pick up the cash daily. I stand by my original opinion that this is a cash scam. I guess it only take 1 patsy to net themselves $390, right?
