  6. How many could tell that you're wearing a rep? Few of the people I meet have ever handled a Submariner in their whole life... I'm use to buy only rep of watches that I can afford or that people may think I can... (a 50,000 $ Patek? C'mon guys...) and I've owned many expensive gen in the past (Rolex 1601/14000, Eberahard Navymaster, two Breitling Chronomat, Universal Geneve Polerouter...) And the nowadays rep are just stunning... Only a trained eye may catch any tiny fault/difference... BTW... I would not say anything about my watches... I just let them guess...

  7. Just checked on phong site and I don’t see this insert with the serifs and the pip. I only see the version with the bad pip. Did you contact him or order from the site ? You will have to excuse my ignorance I’ve not ordered from him before lol

  11. Thanks! The build was a while ago, some of the parts are now unavailable unfortunately. However, here goes: Cartel 5517 midcase with fixed spring bars. Together with caseback. Both with correct markings (no longer available) WSO bezel assembly (better than current batch) Ingod44 dial (no longer available) Hands (HR, If I remember rightly. Second hand tail trimmed to be more gen-like. Something often overlooked on many builds) ETA 2846 movement. Gen T19 service crystal Phong Insert, Yuki pearl (better than current batch) Phoenix NATO strap in Admiralty grey (they manufactured the original MOD straps) Think that’s about it!

  12. To get the WP test and sometimes gaskets replaced (even on brand new watches) costs me €10 to €15 with my watchmaker. I went into a jeweler once to get this done. She charged €20 for the test and €30 for gaskets, so shop around. I have used the same watchmaker for three years now and he makes this hobby affordable in as much as he can but he cannot stop me going crazy on a build or cure my obsessiveness, but he does take the sting out of it lol. As far as I remember i bought 2mm heavy duty ones on EBay and I have not had a problem since, also they snap in better than the skinny Noob ones.

  13. Here's a gen. I've circled the tail of the second hand. It's a small detail that makes a lot of difference. Carefully clip it and sand the edges to a point.

  14. Pros and cons... Not too bad a buy at $2k imho as a 5512/13/1680 project will run about the same if you go with an Eta in a Phong case and high grade GMT projects are 'rare' compared to 5513 etc. Otoh a 5512/13 with Yuki case/dial and genuine 1520/1570 will also cost about $2000...but you will have to deal with an expen$ive rolex movement and all the ills that go with them. Example...I have a no hack 1575 date that loses time on some days and runs on time on others. Magnetized? No. Dirty and dry? No. Canon pinion slips? No. Balance staff rough or a cracked jewel? No. If it was an Eta I could just swap it out but being a cussed $rolex$ I need to fix it. It lost 20 minutes yesterday but is running on time today. On a timer it is within a few bps in all positions. The catch with GMT and 1655 projects with a genuine movement is you will probably spend a small fortune rounding up GMT parts and for this reason the 2893 is a very good choice...except for the 28800 beat rate and no one will notice except maybe a red and blue watch junkie. So...it still seems like a pretty good deal to me (considering current prices) and you can always sell it on the forum if and when you want to make a change. Free advice...please do not 'artificially age' the case because so many have been ruined in the attempt. Just wear it and stay out of rock piles and hammer mills.
