  1. As a "charter member" of the TZ "WIS" society...Yeah...I'm an old fart....I still hang onto my dislike of the TAG label on watches...

I am still looking for a decent rep of the "Heuer Monaco" without TAG in the logo!!

    Like this:

    Monaco-1.jpg

but alas, with the stem and chrono pushers on opposite sides, a rep movement to build one with is highly unlikely!!

  2. As long as we continue dealing in reps, we will occasionally encounter stuff like this...I've been around long enough to witness more than a couple of unfortunate situations like this.

My personal solution to never getting "burned" was to stay away from the flames....

I would NEVER allow myself to get into a situation where I could be putting substantial assets at risk, based solely upon my trusting the veracity of someone who was in effect, just a name on a computer monitor....

As much as we have a sort of "fellowship" among us, when it comes to my money, I try to be careful.

The fact that Concepta is willing to "step up" here and take the blow speaks volumes as to his character...

I would suggest that perhaps the mods here might create some sort of fund raiser to attempt to at least partially relieve him of some of the onus of this sorry situation.

  3. Nice! I used to live on Bainbridge Island and commuted on the ferry. What a life. Ever been to Winslow? Best Thai ever at Teddy's place on Wyatt way.

In '65, our ship was in the yard at Bremerton, and we lived out on Hood Canal, near the Indian reservation...Back then we could buy "Lucky Lager" at the PX for $2.64 a case......We could then trade a case of beer on the reservation for a decent size freshly caught salmon...We ate a lot of salmon, and oysters were free (and EVERYWHERE!!) every low tide....We ate a lot of oysters too!!

My girlfriend's brother had a string of shrimp pots out in the canal....You haven't eaten a REAL shrimp until you have a Hood Canal "deep water red"......(They are bright red before they are even cooked!!)...

These days I live in a 2 season climate: New Years day, and summer...

  4. @ 10 yrs ago I scored this Omega Dynamic Chrono BNIB for $435.00.....It was on a BIN Ebay deal, and I bought it less than a minute after it was posted...

    101_0074.jpg

It's still in my collection.....It's my "go to" watch whenever a rep might not be appropriate, or I'll need a reliable chrono...

Deals like this and your amazing "great white" score don't happen every day!!

  5. Apparently, there seems to have, once again, developed a level of tolerance for those famous "white lies" that we discussed at length a few years back on the various forums.....

The "Swiss movement" myth should be taken as just another one of these LIES that will be told to ensnare the trusting and unwary among us...

In light of the fact that ETA(Swatch group)is fighting the Swiss authorities quite vigorously to avoid selling their ebauches to their competition WITHIN SWITZERLAND, and ETA is winning the battle, what might be the chances that ANY NEW Swiss ETA movements might make it into replica watches made in CHINA...???

Yes, there is always Sellitta, but given the scarcity of movements in general, once again...What are the chances that they'll be cloned too, sooner rather than later....

The only really good news is that the latest versions of the ETA "clones" seems to be a step up in overall quality...

The real solution to the problem is for those who buy these high end reps to STOP "feeding the monster", and simply select the clone movement option, realizing that that's what they'll get anyhow if they're lucky...

I have noticed a trend by many of the newer folks to want to buy the "best", and innocently getting sucked into the "Swiss made" vortex...IMNSFHO, we should make it quite clear to them that all they are doing is wasting money...And creating potential quandaries like this OP has found himself ensnared in...

  6. Those where other times. Cowboys did not need permits to carry guns, they just went in a store and bought one. I believe that persons that are thoroughly checked and proved themselves that they are stable and responsible enough to carry a firearm should be able to do that, yes. If someone with a concealed weapon permit was in that theater, he could have changed the outcome. Even if it was one victim less, it would have been one grieving family less.

Did you see how well that [censored] was armored...???

A guy with as pistol wouldn't even phase him for a moment...Anyone attempting to get into a shootout with a guy wearing body armor, and wielding an AR15 would'n last very long!!
