In my opinion, the "Cartel" dealers (and others too..) have adopted this difficult, time consuming procedure to DISCOURAGE returns......If it was easy, and quick, fewer folks would choose the "get it fixed locally" option...As a result, I personally have chosen to very infrequently use their services...

A quartz model is indeed cheaper, and inherently more accurate, but a quartz movement is not something most watch geeks find acceptable...if it's OK with you, by all means go that way!!

I actually spotted a fake Rolex today at a business meeting and called it out. It was pretty funny, because it was a low quality rep. He didn't care because the guy makes a great deal of money, but also does many overseas deals, in very questionable places, so I can see the REP in his situation.

Then at a later meeting, I saw an orange bezeled PO that I didn't get a good look at. I mentioned it was a $4,000 watch; which was news to his boss, who was right there. He got a few looks after that, and the watch never really came out to play that anyone could see it.

I am very thankful for the forum. Like I said, it saved my butt!

One might question whether your butt DESERVES to be saved at all!!.....If you get your rocks off calling folks out on their watches, you're most likely a "force fit" into OUR community!!

Dial size vs overall case size needs to be considered also...For instance compare a Big Pilot to a Ploprof to see what I mean!!
