  1. Back in the mid '60's when I was in the Navy, the "bar gal's" in Hong Kong used to say: "I can always tell a Navy pilot without asking...."Beeg watchy....tiny "pee-pee"...

Perhaps that's why I feel so comfy wearing my 44mm Panny???...

  2. Don't walk....RUN away from that place...A PAM 195 is a BLACK PVD finish watch 44mm ....You can get a decent one here with Swiss movement for under $300....See the dealers who frequent here... You'll save a bunch of money on Prep H....

  3. Got my first Rolex Pres @ 25 yrs ago....I loved the style of the watch but was unable to afford a genuine one!!

That watch had a decent russian 30j movement and functioned flawlessly...It cost $275.00 back then, when $500.00/week was "big money"...It was quite a good "rep", to the extent that somebody actually broke into my desk at work and stole it!!......I hope the "hock" shop gut laughed really loud at the pr1ck!!

I later got into collecting Gen vintage stuff, mostly US made stuff...

Recently, I rediscovered how great the newer generations of reps had become, so I started to dump my vintage stuff and get a decent rep collection going...So far, I've got 3 rolex, 2 pannies, and 2 omegas in the stable....MORE to come!! ... :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Here is my first Pam. It is from my favorite dealer Joshua

    Birdman

Well besides being neighbors....We both have 195's as our first Pam's!!....I got mine from: that-watch-guy, and it's something of a "culture shock" to strap a 44mm anchor on my wrist, but suddenly every other watch I own seems....well....small!!....BTW...I live in "San Carlos Park!! 33912.... :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  5. Lots of junk to sift through on iOffer.

With the "stable" of reliable guys we have access to here, it just ain't worth the trouble!!

There are just a few sources of DECENT reps in the world, and our "regulars" are pretty adept at finding them, and getting their products to market here...

Conversely, there are plenty of sources for "Canal St." level junk out there, and usually that's what's available on Ioffer...

    WHY BOTHER??... :yucky:

  6. [Regardless of his past performances, the fact that he doesn't accept pay-pal is a dealbreaker with me!!...As long as his competitors do, he'll be at a major disadvantage, no matter how "great" his offerings are...

Buying reps is an "iffy" business to begin with, and adding further complications(AND risks!!)just turns me away...I haven't yet bought a whole bunch of reps, but as soon as I get rid of my extensive (low end) vintage watch stuff, I'll be buying like a" Ho with a Visa card" ... :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  7. I have three subs from three different dealers and all are missing the pearl. Does anyone make a bezel that the dang pearl will stay in? This is my biggest fault with the subs, they take a beating otherwise.

On guy posted here (or one of the "big 3" sites!!) that he pops the pearl on every new sub bezel as soon as he receives it then superglue it back in.....Sonds simple, but it might work....Think I'll try it on my next bezel with a pearl..!!

  8. Best rivetted braclet I have seen is this one

    Ebay bracelet

Although the correct strap is a Nato and there are some really nice black and olive green ones out there which are more realistic than a S/S bracelet. I also wonder how you managed to fit a end link to fixed strap bars!!!!

As I said....It was a cobbling job!! Fortunately with a hollow end link bracelet the end links and the last hollow link on each end can be GENTLY pried open far enough to slip over the fixed bars, and then GENTLY rebent in place....Not exaxtly a "quick change" solution, but it DOES work....

BTW...I'm not going for "realistic" here...I just happen to like the 5517 dial and bezel combo better than any other "Sub" variation, and I also like the vintage effect of the "old fashioned" clasp and riveted link bracelet...Since I choose my watches exclusively to please the most important human on earth..(myself of course!!...;-)), I really like the look!!....

If I wanted "real" I'd just cash in a few CD's and give Jim Dowling a call!!...LOL... :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  9. I am also new to the "new world of reps"....I have seen the junk of the past, but todays reps are often AMAZING in quality...The 2 dealers you mention are the same 2 that I bought my first "New" reps from, and the quality is excellent on all 3 watches I have received(rolexes)...Both Josh and Andrew are top notch people you can feel comfortable dealing with... :victory:

  10. If you know how many links that would be, there are lots of riveted bracelets on Ebay.

Soooooooooooooo where'd you find the folded links Oyster? I'm looking for a good folded link / hollow 20mm for my vintage Sub.

Had it hanging around for years....not good quality....more like junk actually!!...But it does look OK on the watch...When I find a decent replacement, I'll send it your way....gratis.....Frank

  11. Got this nice 5517 from Joshua, but I don't like NATO straps, so I cobbled an old el-cheapo folded link rep strap from my junk box onto it's solid links, and really prefer the great retro look this produces...

I really would prefer to find a riveted link bracelet that would be more "timely" for the head, but I need one that'll reach around my 8" wrist!!....Any suggestions??
