  1. It is best that you have decided on a Genuine Sub.....Sadly, as great as the reps have become, many folks will never be able to accept the fact that their watch isn't genuine, and in the interest of worldwide better mental health, we really don't need any unnecessary angst clouding things up!!

On the other hand, unlike you, I would have that horrible angst burden wearing my psyche down if I DID spend multiple thousands of dollars on a watch that could be very closely duplicated for a couple of hunderd bucks!!

One of the current joys on my life these days is to snap on my very close to original ($160.00) DRSD in the morning, and then open up my banking connection on the net and see that my CD's are still replete with those $$$$$'s that I didn't have to spend to quench my thirst for the dozen or so nice watches in my drawer.!!

It's a GOOD thing that there are different levels of product available that will satisfy the whims of different folks, ...now if I could only find that whorehouse that has all those beautiful young chicks for $ 5.00 each, I'd be a happy camper!!...

Well...I did find it once....@ 45 yrs ago in Olongopo PI... :Jumpy:

  2. I guess it depends on your standards....But Silix has one that ain't too bad...for cheap money too...I guess you might try to find a genuine one, but they weren't all that great eitherIIRC, and it'll probably cost you a bunch...

I have the silix one on my DRSD, and once I realized how to keep the tiny screws tight by putting a tiny drop of crystal adhesive or super glue on the threads before assembling the links, it stays together nicely, and feels quite nice on the wrist..... :victory:

  3. About 25 yrs ago I worked in the yacht finance business in the northeast US. We dealt with a lot of pretentious and wealthy folks, both as our dealers, and customers. Everybody had at least a Rolex sub!! My boss, the president of the co. Was extremely proud of the yellow gold Rolex pres that he wore, since they cost 6 grand + even back then...

As a joke, and to bust his cahones, I bought a cheapo rep of his watch and was planning to wear it at the

Newport boat show that weekend.....Then I had a brainfart!!...I approached the Exec VP of the co, and we set up the greatest scam of the '70's!!...Instead of showing my boss my "rolex" straight up we decided to really blow his mind...We set up a scenario where we we would get Bob,(the boss) to take off his prized Rolex while we were aboard our corporate yacht, after the show that evening, and then I'd switch my rep for his gen, and then......casually flip it overboard while he was watching.....(reps only cost @ 25bucks back then, and money was no object)....Welllll....I decided to go even a bit farther with the scam, so I bought an extra rep and kept it pocketed....

Well...we pulled the switch, I flipped the rep overboard, and my boss almost [censored] his pants!!....After about 5 minutes, we confessed the scam to him, and I handed him back the OTHER rep, saying...Dont worry,...Here's you watch Bob..He immediately recognized it as a POS rep, threw it back at me, and threatened to fired me on the spot!!..I turned pale as a ghost, and so did the exec VP....Now I had them BOTH!!....I quietly poured myself a drink, slugged it down, stripped down to my skivvie shorts and jumped over the side(with the gen Rolex tightly concealed in my fist!!)....I stayed under for @ 30 seconds and emerged up the stern ladder with the rolex held aloft...yelling....GOTCHA!! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I worked for that company for 5 yrs after that, and my boss must have told that story 100 times after that!!

  4. I've got the "patek" version of this watch....I'm curious as to which "gen" it was based upon??...I know the movement is a Venus 175 clone, but I can't recall ever seeing another genuine in this configuration... ;)

And finally .. although not a tourbillon and no prizes for guessing what watch it was based on:

    here's a nice skeleton:

  5. Ok, a serviced 7750@28 is the best value for money, but the service needs to be costed in.

What in your opinion is a reasonable amount to service these movements??....I finally got my 212 running again but not well.....It is showing the same characteristics as a 50 yr old mechanical movement that has dried out...very low amplitude, and running very fast!!..Now that The Zigmeister is on holiday, and RBJ is overloaded with work, and there are nothing but "battery changers" in my 'hood...Do you have any suggestions??...Frank

  6. Here's my "take" on that.....Go ahead buy a gen...then when it breaks, good luck trying to get it fixed for less tan the price of 2 or 3 nice reps!!

My gen Omega dynamic chrono stopped working, and for the price of fixing it, I bought 2 very nice Rolex and Panny reps...Meanwhile, the broken gen Omega sits in a drawer!!!...And I can wear any of my reps and STILL know what time it is!!
