  1. I think it's wrong that nobody ever says anything about it. I have to add that anyone who tries to sell a used Asian version of a watch for $100+ should be shot.

BOTTOM LINE...: Unless you are the buyer, or the seller, you should STFU!!....This simply IS NOT ANY OF YOUR BUSINESS!!

Threadcrapping is almost ALWAYS done only by self righteous horses asses..

WTF are YOU to get involved in a sales transaction between two consenting adults ??

If you think the watch is overpriced, by all means...DON'T BUY IT!!! <_<-_- -_-

  2. I think if anyone starts using silver polish , brasso etc, ( liquid abrasives ) you are going to end up with

much worse than "sunlight swirls". These liquids are virtually impossible to get rid of, and dry to a chalky deposit ending up

in all the minute crevices. ( only total stripdown is going to remove the deposit.) ( or rinsing in solvent ).

These swirls , which show up more in bright sunlight are in actual fact light scratches caused by clothing rubbing on the

part, add to this a little quartz , in the atmosphere and this is the result.

Havn`t used cape cod cloths, but failing that, a small ( 1 1/4" dia. ) buffing mop in a dremmel at lower speed, using the white

polishing medium, will result in as new condition.

Even then all polishing medium has to be washed off with a solvent.

Not MY experience after 20+ yrs using the stuff!!...Worst case scenario: A light rinsing under warm water TOTALLY removes ALL residue!!...(of course...water IS indeed a "solvent")Theories are great, but...experience is even better...;)

  3. Next time, just heat the bezel up with a hair dryer just enough to soften the adhesive beneath the insert, then slowly reposition the insert to the right alignment(bezel high spot lined up with the indices)...This usually is a very small adjustment of a few degrees.... and there is no necessity of removing the bezel to do it...I know this because I did mine YESTERDAY!! :p;) ;)

  4. thanks.

Will I be able to buy a strap which has good durablilty and is an exact copy of the original? My deployment strap is more than I could wish for!

    Where should I start looking?

    thanks again

The search function is your best course....There are many(well several!!) very reliable strap vendors on this and the other rep forums...

Most of the custom guys service primarily the Pam market, but they'll lead you in the right direction!!

  5. Incredible. When I read the name, I thought, wonder if he's related to Clifford Odets. Absolute legend. I love "Waiting for Lefty". :p

From one of America's greatest playrights to a WIS son. It must be difficult to be the son of outstanding individuals...

Last I heard, he was no longer "into" watches at all...Having moved on to fine art collecting...

Walt made a lot of enemies in the WIS world @ 10 yrs ago when he did a scathing expose of Rolex quality control...I suspect that the post he made is still in circulation on the net somewhere...I always respected his talents and wisdom, and found him to be helpful and generous with his time..A real gentleman!!

    In fact...Here it is!!:

  6. i bought a breitling bentley at xmas time with 2 straps. the ss and a brown leather one.

The leather strap is gorgeous but despite only wearing it a few times, one side is already starting to fade and wear quite noticably. This is most probably caused by rubbing on my desk at work although I have only worn it about 10 times to work.

    Is this normal?

Although the strap is from a high end rep rather than a cheap rep I am unsure if its leather.

Can I put anything on it or am I limited to only wearing the leather strap for special occasions?

Most rep straps are basically poorly made...Remember...The seller is in business to make a profit, and he'll sell you ANYTHING that looks "nice", even if he KNOWS its crap...

You need to go for an aftermarket strap like a Hirsch, or a Bob, or perhaps something from one of our rep strap vendors to get any kind of acceptable durability at a reasonable price......I've got @ a dozen brand new Panerai rep straps that I bought in bulk for @ $3.00 each...And I overpaid!! ;) ;) ;)

  7. I did the first course waaaaay back when Walter Odets was just beginning the venture....In fact It was FREE back then...I have been able to take several watches apart as a result....Reassembly, on the other hand is a different story!!

But seriously, it did give me the skills, and confidence to do routine stuff, like dial swaps, and adjustments...My motor skills have deteriorated with age, (and carpal tunnel surgery!!) to the degree that I dare not go beyond those levels any longer...

BTW...If you weren't aware....Walter is the son of the playwright Clifford Odets....

  8. Perhaps they're having to revisit the migration, because that was successfully done before the weekend. :)

    DuDro, me too. Just checked.

It may have been DONE before the weekend,.... but certainly not with much success!!...

I was having nasty flashbacks to the "dialup" era over there!!..

Hopefully, they're redoing the "server thingy".....;)
