  1. Aloha All,

I got married a couple weeks back. For the groomsmen, I went the extra mile and picked up 3 red 1680s from Josh. (the man! great communication and speed)

All the edges were softened the case and bands were oiled sanded, re-sanded then polished cleaned and oiled. Drilled out the end-links 2mm, be careful bent the C#*P out of them and had to rework them back into shape. Drilled the cases at 1.2mm (one at 2mm "woops")

Bezel inserts got a sand and a bath in bleach based draino. Then a tuch of shoe-goo to keep um hanging on for a while.

Then i pulled the movements and re-lumed with noctiLumina. This was a challenge, with out pulling the hands I really have no idea how to make the hands look great. I gave up on the hands after the first watch. It had a cool vintage look but I also really like clean lines of fresh and bright hands. Lumeing the dial was cut and dry. A steady hand and a number 0 brush. The lume came out pretty good, uneven here and there but had the powdery look of old tritium. (Couple spills outside the lines but not bad).

Reassembled 2 complete watches and took one gromsmans beater Oyster Precision and put a 1680 band on it (looked cool!). Then gave him the head with the 2mm holes on black canvas. (i still need to get the 2mm bars to complete this piece){source?).

    Enjoy the photo

  2. Aloha All,

#1. I’m in need of a point in the right direction for hand painting.

Not only the technique, but the sequence, tools needed to remove and replace.

#2 I would like to replace the all the gaskets on a Josh 1680 & PT 1665, who do I source these from? What about the gasket underneath the retaining ring?

#3 HE valve on the PT 1665, epoxy or ……….? I’d like to swim with it.

Your comments & guidance are welcomed and appreciated.

  3. I'm being very impatient, possibly due to the high amount of caffeine running through my system and the visions of 3 red subs in a box with my name on it.

  4. While trying to avoid responsibilities & paperwork at all costs today, I found my wife's nail file and took it to my GMT. It started as just one link as I couldn't stand staring at the polished center links anymore. This lead me to a fine sanding sponge which really did the trick! After a bath in the wife's jewelery cleaner the nasty bling is gone & no more scratch magnet. It looks awesome so shiny and soft. Now back to paperwork.

  5. Its a great watch,

    Couple things to consider.

#1 If your buying new from a dealer, try for correct Hand Stack (I.E. hour GMT minute second) 99% of what you see will incorrect be GMT Hour minute second. I believe King Watch has the correct hand stack. That being said the incorrect hand stack may be more reliable and more accessible.

#2 movement, Asian 21J is cheap! if it fails you can repalce it for $20. Swiss ETA is awesome you'll want to occasionally service it $100. You will see the decorated blah blah blah movement that's just a waste!!!

  6. Interesting investment angle, 19 watches. This is exactly how Ill save for my kids college! Buy a rolex every year on the kids birthday (for myself of course) then right it off as an investment with the IRS. I get a pile of watches and the kid goes to college. Win Win ...........I'd never give them up LOL :thumbsupsmileyanim:
