Firstly, I bought my 187 from RiverwindMDS, second hand. It's a rep of course. Secondly, we call them PAMxxx where the xxx is the model number because ... um, that's what Panerai call them. I believe it's short for Panerai Model.
"Taters, poh ... tay ... toes"
Much in the way that I am not a huge Panerai fan and find a lot of their models quite tasteless, so I only own 5 of them.
They're essentially WW2 Italian diving watches that have evolved into huge lumps you put on your wrist and love. They have a secondary addiction that costs a fortune: Straps.
Listen to the case opener grinding the grooves off the caseback. Scary stuff!
And then, to make matters worse, when he puts the caseback back on, he grinds it again.
I beg to differ. Remember the guy is an AD. He deals with watches every minute of his working life.
I reckon I could tell the difference, as I can tell the difference between 6 and 8 beats a second if I look closely. Also, looking at a gen Planet Ocean (7 beats a second, co-axial escapement), I could see it was smother than an ETA rep. Any well-lubed watch will be smoother than a 'surplus' ETA movement if you know what to look for.
Anyone doubting me should have a close look at a gen Sub while wearing an ETA-based rep.
Sure I wanted these watches. They're damned good value for money. I own the SUG too. Tritium tubes? At that price? Yes please!
I'm not a Swiss-Snob.
No, I just put down dealer prices when I feel we're being taken for a ride.
