So I picked up a crown that was sold to me as a 702, but it doesn't look like it has the same bevel on the inside of the crown as the pictures above. What crown do I have here: I also ended up with this crown and tube. Is this a 704?

I am aware that the lugs will require work. I have a cartel case now, but I need to get a better case to fit the gen parts. If this case I posted will work, I'll have the lugs modded. Thanks!

I just want to be sure before I send over payment for this. It's kinda of a shame to buy these entire watch just for the case, but I'll be replacing the crown with gen, the dial with a 5517 dial, the plexi with gen, the hands with sword hands, case back with a 5517, bezel insert with a 5517 and the pearl with a yuki. However I really want the correct height with the crown, and this appears to have it:

Hmmm. I'd love to find one uses at a good price. Anyone have any leads?

I'm looking for a great case for my 5517 project. I PMed a dealer that can source a new MBW 5513. My question is, is the case as good as the old school ones that everyone raves about? The price is kinda high for a used one (offered one for 400 euro). However I can get a new one for 275gbp. With the dollar so week, it's $450 for a new one or $570 for an old school one. Also, what movements come with these watches? Any chance it's an ETA slowbeat? I plan on using a gen crystal, crown tube for a 24-702 from a member here, a gen 24-702 crown, NDT dial, SM300 hands and yuki pearl. Thanks!!!

With this change, my 5218-209 Pre-V Logo watch is DONE!

Thanks for the post. If you can, please PM me with a source of a 5513 watch from MBK (or preferably just the case). Thanks!

This looks to be a great thread! I'm in the process of building a 5517 and just received the cartel 5517. While it's one of the only options to get a case back and bezel insert, I'm not really pleased with the case. The crown position is way too low. Would a MBW 5513 case have a better crown position? Does it accept a gen tube and plexi? Thanks!

Thanks for this thread. Looks like I bought the wrong crown for my 5517 build. Where can I get a 24-7020 aftermarket tube?

Thanks, will do when I get it.

Really? I thought I've seen a few builds with gen size dials? Can anyone confirm?

So I've started my 5517 build. I've purchased the 5517 from Josh (http://www.1-pc8838.com/rlsv01002-vintage-5517-military-submariner-asia-2836-p-7699.html), a set of SM300 vintage hands, yuki pearl, ETA2846 and NDT dial. I plan to have the hands and pearl relumed. I also plan to have the stock rep lug bars replaced. I'm VERY new when it comes to Rolex, so if these are stupid questions, please forgive me. Here are my questions: 1. For the 5517, is the Tropic 19 the correct crystal? Josh says it will fit the gen crystal, but has anyone tried with this case? 2. Is a gen crown needed? I've heard that some reps have crowns that are WAY to large. Here are some QC pics from the watch I ordered: Does this crown look okay? Also, if I do get a gen crown, the real crown for the 5517 is 24-702 which seem to be VERY expensive: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=rolex+24-702 I'm also having a hard time justifying the price. What is the difference between that crown and the ones you can find on eBay with a gen crown and tube for around $100 like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-Submariner-7mm-Watch-Crown-Tube-16800-Part-/330557197919?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf6be8e5f#ht_1057wt_907 Are they visually the same? Thanks!

No, it's a Ross dial. I have an A dial ordered and will compare when it arrives.

I know I'm not the only one that loves the Pre-V logo dial, but HATES the Pre-V lug screws. That is why I decided to build a 528-209. The major differences between the two watches are the case and cg. The 5218-209 has a Pre-A case (so it has normal lugs and a single lug screw) and a Pre-A CG (flat and polished). Specs: Eddie Lee Case Matt/BigCrown C3 Crystal Eddie Lee CG (for now, Sead on the way to compare) T48 Crown Jakob Case Back (currently it's my Pre-A 009 Caseback, 209 cb still in transit) Swiss ETA6497 FGD Dial DSN Hands (I find the hand tips to be better) MartyD3 Lume (AMAZING JOB!) OEM Black Calf (for now)

Who has the correct version of the Pre-V 207 dial?
milesd replied to sonicpath's topic in The Panerai Area
Someone built one with a gen dial, that's the best one I've seen -
hahaha, but you should really be complementing the people who did the work. I just assembled the piece (the easy part).

First off I want to thank the following people for the work they did for this watch: PatronSaintofChainsaws - Tall bezel and thick case back merlin699 - Painted the dial and wax filled. Also sourced rivets and out of this world crystal Kent Parks - Amazing lume job on the dial and hands tik-toc-collectionist - welded the lugs and crown tube. Also aged the crown so it doesn't look right out of china T - Making awesome vintage hands rmcsherry - Making the fantastic dial Now on to the pics (I didn't setup my gear, so these are quicky photos, more will come later) Thanks to all those who helped me out!

I had the same exact issue with my 219. What I found out is the stem was cut too short. The solution at the factory was to unscrew the crown slightly and then glue the stem in place. What happens when you wind the watch and resistance in the spring builds is the glue snaps and then screws the crown into the stem even more, making it impossible to put the movement back in winding mode. Seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVlmrzVMl20 You are going to need a new stem. I had a spare stem from a spare movement. I cut it slightly longer and installed it. The watch is fine now.

I have both. The quality is the same as they are from the same maker. It all depends on what you want: base destro or marina.
-
Correct. Still missing the sleeve, but for me as long as it closes correctly and doesn't flop when closed, I'm fine.
-
Better photos for you guys: One second exposure. This sucker is BRIGHT!
-
The CG IS perfect! Perfect finish, perfect lever pin, closes with just the right amount of snap. Simply awesome.

I wear my watch on my right wrist, so I've always been a bit jealous of you guys that can have your CG stick out from under your sleeve. Well, the 219 has arrived. These are just iPhone shots, I'll take better photos later.
