    9/11

september 11th was a tragedy, and that is what this thread is to discuss. however, it would be impossible to discuss without understanding the historical implications this has made on US foreign and domestic policy. i don't think the issue is how sorry everybody is that so many died on september the 11th, because nobody can deny that it was a tragedy, but it would be senseless to deny that the American people, and the globe for that matter, can't learn from this. that said, comments such as ''Americans are stupid and care only for themselves" accomplishes nothing, but so too do equally pretentious and overtly nationalistic statements. what people need to start having is rational discussion. discourse on Iraq and Katrina do need to happen, but in an open and intelligent way.
  2. looking back at the causations and results of the american revolutionary war, it is really no surprise that the government has a mind of its own. the iraq war is unbelievably unpopular even among the most mainstream misinformed middle-aged white american house-wife, but its still continuing. understanding that the constitution was formed to allow the federal government more power to protect itself from the same forces which put down the previous regime. American democracy is in a sense a tragedy. on one hand, the people of the US are afforded many rights and legal protections, the downside, however, is that the people themselves have had to (sometimes literally) fight the authorities for it. while most conservative americans believe the government is representing their best interests, the reality is that they're are and always have been a separate and bourgeois class of their own. even the wording of the constitution ensured that 1/3 of americans were to live in bondage, taking a war and several generations to change. the American people have shown time and time again that they have what it takes to take from their government as many rights and freedoms as they possibly can. after the civil war things were looking beautifully for them, even. however, after the civil rights movement there came a downturn of american liberalism and a shift towards a Regan-esq economic system. now we're seeing a resurgence of conservatism and a loss of a more socialist 'for the people' welfare state (not literally 'welfare'). this goes to show that throughout history, even dating back to the pre-revolutionary period, americans have been at constant odds with their governments. the situation is no different today. i place far more faith in the American People than the United States of America as a political and economic entity. its sad to have to think of the worlds biggest (and one of the most successful) democracy as having the state in antagonism with the people but its a hard reality. there are always exceptions, but they're exactly that. things'll get worse before they get better. but they will get better. as for the conspiracy theories, nobody can say for complete certainty that we have been to the moon or that LHO shot JFK and to do so would be foolish. the likeliness of not having gone to the moon or a CIA conspiracy is extremely low, but i wouldn't rule completely out.
  3. i had a watch guy do it and he struggled for half an hour. i took a thick pin and a hammer and it took me five minutes. up to you.
  4. fratboys can be douchebags, true. but its just ironic reading that someone who wears $500 glasses for the style is any better than a college student who wears a pair of $150 oaklies for the same reason. faux rich snobs are the older version of college-age fratboys
  5. ideally you'd get the cheap one, put a gen ETA from oferi in it, aftermarket hands and bezel from ebay and you'd pretty much have a perfect SMP save the bracelet. the only way to get a good bracelet is to get a GEN, nothing compares.
  6. use the search feature or look back a couple pages. i believe someone already addressed this issue, and the endlinks/clasp will fit the rep bracelet
  7. yeah when it comes to the bond, i'd sooner spend my money on the cheap version. seems like they all have their stupid flaws, this just ensures you're getting what you pay for.
  8. I can't say I've seen too many people given gifts like a rolex. Where I'm from we get the ''shut up go to school'' when we graduate high-school and the ''shut up get a job'' when we graduate university. oh well. either that or luggage.
  9. love the color of the lume. not huge on the green tint of the older models, the blue looks far classier
  10. pictures from watchuseek forums goddamn thats sexy
  11. are there any good reps of the 2220.8 0 ? or are they all only of the older version?
  12. yeah i was in the market for a gen smp. now i might have to settle for the quartz. : / either that or i find an older model, but the 2220. 8 0 is so pretty.
  13. i'd wear one that said 'seamaster'. nobody i know'd notice/care. looks good. i just want a rubber strap that fits snug or nearly snug with the case.
  14. I realize this is an old thread, but I just took the bracelet off of my 4th gen po and it has 2 sets of lug holes drilled. i suppose all i'd have to do is cut off the steel peg in the middle of a rep strap and it should fit well. probably a stupid question, but i've looked everywhere for the rep strap and haven't been able to dig one up, could someone who knows (or has one) pm me?
  15. does anyone have a Gen rubber strap or even a rep rubber strap for the 42mm 4th they'd be willing to part with? pm me
  16. Got my 4th Gen PO from Andrew and the Omega logo is angled and covering the 'E' and 'G'. Is there any way to fix this? does anyone have a spare dial for a 42.5mm?
  17. I tried everywhere and nobody had the black bezel white markers version, had to settle with the black bezel orange markers, which is fine i suppose. for the 42, 4th gen that is. but i don't have ''connections''
  18. sprang the bux for the 4th gen black on white with andrew. we'll see how this turns out. D:
  19. bump! any word on a new generation of the 42 from anyone? not sure if i can wait any longer!
