  1. It depends on the particular models. Assume that a genuine refill will not fit without some slight modifications to either the pen or refill. I've seen posts about adding a spring to the end of the refill, or drilling out the tip of the pen to make it a bit bigger. Generic refills (Parker, etc.) have been known to fit directly into others. That's my biggest problem with rep pens. The ink delivery generally sucks on the reps, and it' hard to find something that will work without some trial and error.
  2. Yeah, nice but for me "Slytech" is the equivalent of putting on "Walmart."
  3. PMWF = Poor Man's Watch Forum - Generally, all talk about watches under 1K. Rolex is so recognizable and so overpriced that wearing a fake often screams poseur. While that might not be your reason to wear one, lots of people perceive it as status-seeking. I suppose this is still true with ALL reps to some degree, lessening as genuine cost and brand recognition goes down. There a lots of reliable genuines out there at affordable prices - but we are still talking about automatics. Just spend some time on the website above. I find myself no longer caring about a "label" but rather the innate construction and beauty of a watch. It was fun for a while to show off my rep PAMs, Breitlings, etc., but it has worn off.
  4. The allure has also been fading for me. After a few grand (easily) on reps, I only wear 2-3 with any regularity. The other ten or so sit in the dying ebay watchwinder (and yes, I've traded about 6 or so over the years). Part of it is my profession. I have to be careful about sporting a rep, and what kind of message that imparts. This has lead me to steer clear of Rolex altogether. Apart from a few tempting reps over the past 6 months, I've simply grown tired of most of the offerings. Another reason is the demise of pp among many dealers. I'm sorry, but you're not getting me to send payment any other way. But the biggest part is my growing affection for genuines with ETAs for similar prices. There's dozens of fine brands regularly discussed on PMWF and the like. This is where I'm gravitating. I'm also going to saving more money and will likely make a few choice genuine purchases in the future (eg., Omega). That's not to say reps are off my list, but I'm much more selective.

    Family guy

No big secret for anyone who's ever paid attention to Family Guy. While funny, the show is merely a random mishmash series of jokes completely unrelated to the plot.
  6. I first noticed PAMs in 2004, shortly after joining the boards. They didn't strike me as terribly impressive, and the hype seem overplayed. After a while, I broke down and bought one of EL's Unitas 183s (non swan). It's nice, but I never caught the fever like most seem to do around here. I won't rule out purchasing another, but they're not on my hit-list.
  7. This is for real; taken right off the Yahoo newswire:
  8. Hmmm . . . I wonder why the retreat on the flying eagle cross? I've got Asian VC reps that have a really convincing cross.
  9. Sweet. I had a Les Paul Gold Top with the slim 1960's neck . It was very nice, and sounded monstrous. I vastly prefer that neck style over the wide 57 style. But alas, I grew up on strat-style guitars and eventually sold it. My current favorite is G&L and Ernie Ball (Silhouette).
  10. I can't believe they made this one, but I guess you have to follow the $$ Titanic 2 - Movie Trailer Link
  11. NICE! Only things I see: bezel hash marks are a bit too thick; alignment of the 12 hour marker (whenever there are two geometric pieces, even the tiniest misalignment shows. this may or may not apply to the model you get).
  12. I prefer the white, and am also curious if the black is picked due to accuracy.
  13. Probably due to the expense of the 2893 ETA and problems they were having getting the GMT hands synced up.
  14. The rep makers will still probably put a "display" case back on it.
  15. You don't want to see the "Hard Drive" scene!
  16. I like it! Hamilton puts out some great stuff at reasonable prices. The longer I've been into watches, I find myself gravitating more to the PMWF style genuines . . . and Hamilton fits that bill. Is that a current model, or real vintage?
  17. Instead of silica gel, try Minute Rice. It's super absorbant. I've used it to dry out cell phones before.
  18. My momma said hair would grow like that if you did a bad thing to yourself. But if that were true, my palms would look like a gorilla's back.
  19. With The Zigmeister here, this place is feeling more and more like home every day! Great to have you in our presence!
  20. Very nice. How do you plan on fixing the date wheel, aftermarket ETA supplier?
