  1. Which gives me an idea for an even cheaper watch box. +
  2. I wear dress shoes for work, and walk a lot, so I am like a girl with them new shoes all the time
  3. I was watching an older Bond Movie with Brosnan. In one scene he and a Chinese lady-agent are gearing up for a mission at her hideout. Bond picks out various items from her collection - weapons, gear, etc. At one point he takes a watch (SMP) and shows it to her: Bond: This looks familiar Chinese Agent: We've made improvements (Bons smirks, puts the watch in his shirtpocket) Later Bond uses the watch as an explosive device with a detonator. Which made me think that the actual watch Bond uses must have a thin Quartz movment to allow for the space to house all the junk. Which is kind of ironic.
  4. I can confirm on the effectivness of paint pens, for your type of scratches. $50 bucks, a little work, and you will be amazed by the results. I used these people http://www.paintscratch.com/ They matched my pigment perfectly...
  5. For my first, and so far the only rep, I bought a Chopard GTXL (the 7750 version) from a trusted dealer. It came with a bunch of problems. The dealer asked me to mail it back with regular airmail. Due to the "customs problems" he can't receive fedex and such. I sent it and that was that. It has been over four weeks and the dealer said he never received the watch. I assume it's been stolen or lost or whatever I cannot see how I can order from him again, and yet he is one of the "best" dealers here.
  6. Just me, but I would be embarrassed to wear a Rolex in public, gen or rep.
  7. Do a dremmel tool with a buffing pad can be used to apply cerium oxide powder to polish mineral crystal? I imagine polishing glass surface by hand is a tedious process?
  8. So no sapphire glass? Is it acrylic - plastic?
  9. Upon seeing this method and reading more tutorials, I arrived at the conclusion that the same method used to polish/restore modern car paint surface can be applied to watches. http://www.timezone.com/library/workbench/workbench0018 http://www.squiggly.com/gb/en/special/special/polywatch I have experience doing this with my car and have all the right materials. I also have an old ESQ with scratched up crystal and SS case. The AD wanted $150 to polish it. I told them to shove it and put the watch in the drawer. When I get home, I will try to polish my watch with fine sandpapers and rubbing compound and report results. Hope to take some pics in the process. ~T
  10. I must say, as a new guy, these admin fellows impress me. They really do care.
  11. I think this forum is the 'book' you are looking for. It's even better. It's an interactive book. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=4275
  12. Do people not wonder where you have the mullah to buy a new mega thousand dollar watch every month?
  13. I have to second that. I received my first rep. It is already packaged for the return trip to it's "adopted" homeland in the far east. I am so glad I bought from one of the trusted dealers who actually offer a warrantee! Thanks to RWG.
  14. I am not sure if this is a cause for concern. I enjoyed reading an older post by a member who went to the Chinese rep watch capital. The market with millions of reps. I am pretty sure that the swiss boys know all about it and probably have an "agent" there who regularly buys samples and ships them over to the swiss manufacturers. Heck they probably even know the names and locations of the factories. So, it's not like this high quality rep business a BIG secret. If some dork walks into the AD and hands over his rep for inspection, well thats his problem. Last week I went to the AD and bought a gen Tag (alas as a gift to a relative), I was asking them how they know a gen from a rep. They said it is easy - the weight and the serial numbers on the back give it away. lol.
  15. I have the same problem. The rotor is not secure in my A7750. It wobbles and scrapes the case-back. I can see this through the crystal case-back. What should I do? Open the case and tighten the screw in the center? I am new at this. This is my first rep. Help
  16. this is such a cool dial. how did you make it? is this a metal circle? did you paint it? how did you cut the numbers out?
  17. Just watched "Tropic Thunder". What a great movie. Tom Cruise's character is wearing a big watch on a black strap. It is shown clearly in a couple of shots, but I don't know what it is. If you guys see the movie, maybe you can spot the brand and model. Thanks.
  18. I agree, I have bought a bunch of rep clothing on ebay. Probably $500-700 worth. It is all bs. I threw away a bunch, the rest is in the closet somewhere. I am only wearing three A&F polos from ebay. They are. I have gen hollister shirts and the quality of Hollistes is awesome. The same with dress shirts. Just last week I bought 4 dress shirts for work. $180 each. These are top quality shirts from Hong Kong (?!). My local dealer who sells authentic shirts made in germany and france recomended me these essentially chinese shirts as the best. And I love them. I have a bunch of gen, but cheap shirts that I got for $40-60. They are crap. What a waste of $$. In the long term the generic expensive shirts last longer and always look great. Question is: what am I doing here, seriously considering buying a fake watch??? lol...
  19. Oh wow, I love how this watch looks. After considering Omega UPO, IWC 3717 and TAG Aquaracer Chrono I think I have setteled on this one as my first watch. What a beauty. Those of you who have had it for a while: how the rubber strap holding up? It looks funny - like a tire thread SQL, why did you decide to sell yours? Cheers
  20. I have read that some of you guys send the crystal for AR coating. The website that sells this rep states that the sapphire has double sided AR. Is it not good enough? http://www.puretimewatch.com/index.php?pro...cture_id=201699 Also, my local optical glasses store offers AR on their lenses. Is this the same process? Can I ask a local lab to do the AR for me, or is this a specialty job that only a watch AR specialist can do?
  21. From what I read in the reviews the logo issue is "loupe stuff". I presume that means that othe funny feet can be only seen with a magnifying loupe. Am I correct? Also what is the issue with the perl? I am comparing the photos of the UPO with the gen and the pearl looks the same to me. Is this another "loupe stuff" thing? It seems most people agree that the UPO is a great rep and most of the minor issues can be solved with a gen dial from ofrei. --------- p.s. my first post here, thanks for all the info...
