  1. Sweet....thanks dieselpower! Ill take a look. Thanks everyone!
  2. Thanks Demsey for the fun link! Im not aware of a white dial version from MBW. I actually bought this from a forum member mint/never worn '07 version. You might ask Chris at Eurotimez. He seems to know alot about MBW and Noobs.
  3. Yesterday was like x-mas again when USPS delivered my new MBW 1680. This is my first MBW. It is far superior to the other rollie reps I own. I am very pleased with the quality. It has a Genuine Swiss ETA (according to Chris from Eurotimez's info about how to spot a gen ETA). The bracelet is much better than I expected. The dial is clean. The crown has perfect feel at all stops, including the threads at lock down. The bezel is a bit tight. The pearl is very nice. After purchasing my first three reps: A cheapy ST6D TT, a Trusty asian eta 1665 and a ladies DJ asian eta. I was wondering what the big deal with reps were. Now I know. You get what you pay for. I am very pleased with this purchase
  4. Thanks RWG... for the great new hobby.

    DSSD bph?

Im leaning that way also. Yeah its for divers...thats funny stuff. Thanks again, maybe Ill have my Eurotimez TT blue lumed once I get it...wouldnt that be ugly!
  6. I was ready to pull the trigger on a DSSD with blue lume. Then I read about the problems with QC. Are there any other Rollie subs that have blue lume like the V3? How much does it cost to have one lumed? Who does a great blue lume?

    DSSD bph?

Thanks again Freddy333! I see you are staying away from the V3. Now I want the high beat version...hmm...? All for that blue lume... Wow freddy...that is one awesome looking gen mov.
  8. What is the Gen vintage DSSD bph?
  9. Thanks again Freddy...all great insight and info. I wish, but no Its not an MBW. The seller said it was from Trusty but I cant find this version on his site...maybe an experienced rep person like yourself might be able to help identify this watch for me? There are no markings on the caseback, It is a smooth clone eta movement gold in color, the bracelet is not the rivet style and it has a faux hev. Thats a good way to look at it. As a noob, Im trying not to get too 'picky' about these reps or I will drive myself crazy Sweet. How much does that cost?
  10. Freddy, thanks for the info. I did read about people gluing them on, but I wasnt aware that this was from the factory..or is it? According to my watch guy, it was too wide and impossible to re-glue or fit properly without shaving its width. It was binding the action of the dw function making a horrible crunching noise. This guy is much older. He looked at me like I was crazy for buying reps. Obviously, he doesnt see reps ever. He barely charged me, whether or not removing the dw was the 'rep pc' thing to do...Im happy that it is working now without the crunching when I turn the crown. The reality of the details to any profession or hobby seem to get lost on most individuals that dont have the knowledge or skills pertaining to that particular profession or hobby. Its strange...when I photograph these watches, I notice every little detail. You feel like everyone else should notice these details. Its a let down when they dont. No one even notices my watch, more or less the details. After many months of wearing my blue TT to band gigs in front of many people...not one person has mentioned it yet. If I was the only person left on the planet, I would still wear a watch. I just wish my rollie reps had better LUME!
  11. Thanks Noel, I agree. I am very interested in learning the basics and more. My family of watchmakers left me books...etc. I would learn on other watches first. Im even considering watchmaker classes.
  12. Thats interesting...maybe once I get tools, Ill try to put another one back on. It wasnt glued down properly, so it was making a nice 'crunching' sound when you turned the crown in the dw position.
  13. I went through the same thing...almost spent a ton on a scam sight bluefakes...then at the last second...I found RWG, RWI and RG. Thanks!
  14. The word 'springbar' makes me wince. I hate to admit this: I spent 9 hours assembling the springbars on my 1665 after doing a vegetable oil, soap rinse and car wax treatment to the bracelet. I watched the sun rise...then I finally bent them to make them fit. This is after I ruined one of them. The lug holes on my Trusty 1665 are way 'off'. I hope you get them out...good luck.
  15. I purchased this TrustyTime Swiss ETA 1665 used from a forum member. It arrived with the DW doa. The seller refunded my money in full and let me keep the watch. I am not blaming TrustyTime for any of these issues mentioned below. Andrew was cool about a refund to the original seller. I bought this used 'like new' with caseback sticker and all. I was told it was a few months old. It appeared mint and unused when I received it...see pics below. Besides the DW problems, I noticed was that it wasnt holding its power reserve because it was not auto winding properly. I removed the plastic spacer and shaved it down with an x-acto knife. I threw all the ultra fine plastic shavings into the ETA movement for a lube-filler...that's good right? That fixed the insert issue, now its winding properly and holding a great power reserve. Then I took it 'across the river' to a small town jeweler to be fixed. After a few hours my 'rep friendly' watchmaker calls me..."someone really mickey moused this piece of %&$". He fixed it the same day by noon. It turns out that someone glued another DW (shocker huh?) over the original DW and it was spinning loose. He removed it and now the original DW works perfectly. The numbers dont align the best at '31'...etc. That doesnt bother me so much. Im just happy its working properly now. My watch smith also lubed the tube threads and greased the o'ring. The crown feels much better when you tighten and loosen it. I refunded half the cost back to the seller as suggested. I really like the dial on this watch...nice subtle yellow markers:
  16. Thanks you guys...I appreciate it. As I was told by the previous owner, this is the Swiss ETA version TrustyTime 1665 with the unmarked caseback and faux hev valve. I purchased this from a forum member at a great price. It arrived with the DW doa. I received a full refund from the seller and he let me "keep the watch". Super cool 'gen' guy from Repgeek that doesnt want reps. Im going have it fixed, or fix it myself eventually...this could be my first 'surgery' piece. I am very happy with this watch otherwise. I would however save up a bit more and get the MBW. I have a 'polex' MBW 1680 arriving this week, but I cant do a comparison yet. I can only compare it to my $60.00 TT. One thing surprised me...my ST6D cheapo TT seems like it is better quality than this TrustyTime 1665. The crown feels 'crisper' when you pull the stem out on my TT than on this swiss eta 1665. The bracelet is much better on my TT. The TT has better weight...feels more solid...even if its not 'gen' weight. For my first watch repair... I had to remove a bit of material from the plastic spacer surrounding the clone 2836 ETA movement in the 1665. It would not autowind. No wonder the previous owner wasnt happy Overview on the 1665 TrustyTime Swiss ETA: The sweep seems very smooth to my novice eyes...although its not vintage like. Nice dial and yellowed markers. The bracelet feels a bit loose and cheap compared to other reps Ive owned so far. Clasp works well. DW doa...may have been loosened during shipping in the extreme cold? Stem has a 'mushy' feel to it when pulled out or engaged. Crown doesnt screw down with a 'clean' feeling...its a bit grimey at the thread. Spacer surrounding movement was too tight. Lume is stronger on upper half of watch...from 9-3. Keeps excellent time. I love the 1665. Now I want the MBW version too! "light is an arrow"
  17. Shots of the Trusty 1665 Swiss ETA I received today from a forum member:
  18. Thanks Toad. I appreciate the info. Yes its the DW. It feels like its 'slipping' when I move the crown and @midnight nothing happens. You are not going to believe it...the seller just refunded my money and told me to "keep the watch". MAN is that a great x-mas gesture or what? I was totally bummed today when I got the watch...thinking "yep this is my first issue". I expect problems...but this is a great way to start this hobby. I have bought five reps in only two months. I should have an MBW 'Polex' 1680 in the mail wednesday, and a Eurotimez soon.
  19. My first rep problem. I just received my Trustytime DRSD with swiss eta. I got it from a member on repgeek. The calendar is DOA. It does not work at all. It barely reacts to the crown actions. If you tap on the watch, it spins freely. What are my options? UPDATE: The seller refunded all funds and told me to "keep the watch".
  20. I have a chance to pick up an older original polex mbw 1680. Its in excellent condition. It says original Polex Registered Design on one side and 5512 or 5513 on the other side. One problem...it runs 90 secs slow each day. He has tried to adjust the timing. Why is the Polex version better? What price are they getting for the Polex version now? Were the Polex mbw's genuine swiss eta back in '98? Thanks!
  21. Does anybody know if a MBW 1665 caseback will fit on a trusty swiss eta 1665?
