  1. @ usil, i totally agree re: the pictures on strapmasters site -- those are the crappiest looking expensive straps i've ever seen. their pictures just plain suck.

if you're looking for good quality alligator straps, i have a black alligator strap (w/ black stitching) from watch boys on my 183, and it is good value at $99. you can find him at paneristi here or on ebay here.

i would be curious to hear quarks' response to your question, so also consider this post a BUMP :bounce:

I we to the Strapmaster web site and checked out their croc straps and they did not have that strap. Plus, the pictures of the other croc straps look glossy and plasticky. Nothing like the look of your great strap. Did you have a better picture to select from because these do not look too good? I have already been burned once on poor quality croc straps and find the pictures hard to tell about the quality.

  2. thanks for the update!! my pam 063 is already getting antys in its pantsy :bounce:

thanks for all your hard work on these -- it really is appreciated :victory:

Heard from the lens shop today, and they've informed me that the cyclopes are on schedule to ship in 2 weeks. At that time I will be (slowly) making my way down the list of interested parties and sending PMs with payment details.

  3. i studied in copenhagen for a semester and lived with a danish family; my favorite smørrebrød was dark rye bread, liver paté, topped with cucumber. for an american, it was definitely different lunchtime fare, but strangely good.

    any brøndby if fans here?

    dt

Brødskiver Sjef..vi har niste, matpakke, brødmat, snitter og slikt....men man må til Danmark for å få virkelige "smørrebrød" :)

Literally translated, smørrebrød means "spread [on] bread", and the "spread" is generally laid on to a piece of buttered rye bread (rugbrød), a dense, black bread with many seeds. Pålæg, the topping, then among others can refer to commercial or homemade cold cuts, pieces of meat or fish, cheese or spreads.

This is essentially the base on which the art of the famous Danish open sandwich, smørrebrød is created: A slice or two of pålæg is placed on the buttered bread, and then pyntet (decorated) with the right accompaniments, to create a tasty and visually appealing food item.

    Some traditional examples include:

Dyrlægens natmad (translated, Veterinarian's midnight snack) -- On a piece of dark rye bread, a layer of liver paté (leverpostej), topped with a slice of corned beef (salt kød) and a slice of meat aspic (sky). This is all decorated with raw onion rings and cress.

  4. i can't speak for tt, but i'm guessing he means "know what it is you're buying before you buy it" (ie. do some research on a watch's movement before buying it). same thing could be said for the asian 7750 -- it has its known issues (particularly the old version); some people refuse to buy watches w/ asian 7750 as a result.

should be interesting to see ziggy's forthcoming review...

    dt

Really? Because, while I know the board does not officially sanction dealers, the prevailing wisdom and ongoing commentary from the membership is that if you buy a watch from "one of our trusted dealers" you will be OK. I am not suggesting we are NOT ok with this advertising, but it is at least a bit misleading.
  5. this is really random but i can't help myself -- i was grabbing my morning coffee this morning and saw a guy wearing a rose gold big bang outside of peet's coffee on polk street in san francisco; he was trying to read the paper while trying to look after his daughter.....i didn't have a chance to talk to the guy, but i was wondering, what are the chances that this guy is wearing a genuine rose gold big bang (particularly given the watch was just recently released by angus)?

you guys ever had those moments where you see someone with a nice, random watch and wonder if the person is a RWG member?

anyways, i figured i would throw it out there just in case that guy happens upon this thread.

    dt

btw, missed connections is a section on craigslist created solely for trying to track down people you saw but didn't get to talk to.......kind of fun

  6. the power reserve varies for different watches, but most of my pams have a power reserve of about 40ish hours (nearly two days worth). i actually enjoy winding my watches.

Thanks guys - exactly the info im interested in.

I dunno about manual wind - ive never had one so I guess would take some getting use to

Im guessing you need to wind it each day?

  7. admittedly, i haven't had the time to look into it properly, but figured someone here might know -- is there any chance the iphone will be capable of synching with corporate email? you'd think apple would have realized this is an important market to try to reach...

  8. just curious, any reason you have an aversion to manual wind versions? :g:

i don't know too much about panerai automatics, but the pam 063 gmt is popular. with some modding (primarily new cyclops & datewheel), it has the potential to be a 99% rep. i don't know that i would suggest it as your first pam though.

if you're willing to consider manual wind versions, most people find a 111h or 112h is a good place to start. take a look in the panerai photo gallery section -- there are tons of great pictures of all the different versions.

    i must warn you -- pams are addicting -- pretty soon you'll find yourself with a 063, 111h, 112h, 183h, 187 and 217 :whistling:

    hope this helps.

    Hey guys,

Ive been skimming thru this forum for weeks now and have been searching for a Panerai ideal for myself. However, because there are so many and alot seem to be manual Im not sure which are the better ones to get.

Out of the automatic (not manual wind) swiss ETA Pams - which are the best reps? preferably 40-44mm range.

Thanks guys - and photos would be awesome too.

  9. i believe there used to be a search field where you could type in a few keywords and search the board from the top of the main page; is there any way to put that field (it's a pretty small box) back on the top of the main page?

need to make finding the search button easy for the noobs :whistling:

Admin, thanks so much for all the time you spend making this a great board!!! :victory:

  10. so i sent off my 111h, 112h and 183h to ziggy to have them relumed with superluminova, and after having the watches back for about a month or so, i have to say that i never would have guessed how much i enjoy having my pam's superlumed.

it is really a noticeable modification -- anytime you go from normal lighting to less lighting, the watch glows like a torch. it typically stays really bright for maybe a minute or so, but even after that the lume always is bright enough to read the watch in whatever lighting you might find yourself in.

i'm not obsessed about having a 1:1 panerai with dagger swan neck, etc (i typically buy the asian movement versions & spend the difference on nice straps), but i think i will be having all of my favorite pam's relumed.

  11. i'm not sure i would take it to a place that sells tags to have it resized.....

to set the time, pull the crown out one notch further than you pulled it out to set the date (hopefully you followed the others' instructions re: when to set the date -- you should really first set the time to say 5:25, then set the date to the day before today, then use the 'set the time' function, moving time forward so that the date changes to today, then continue on to set the time, making sure you have the AM/PM correct so the date changes at midnight and not noon. i hope this makes sense -- kind of hard to describe.

finally, re: the chrono function, to minimize the risk of hand slippage (ie. having the chrono hand not lining up at 12:00), ziggy recommends running the chrono hand till somewhere between 12:00 and 3:00 so that it doesn't have far to snap back to 12:00. once again, hope this makes sense.

    enjoy your new watch.

    dt

I got it.. and in only 8 days! Two questions though, if I took this into a shop they would take a link out no problem right?.. what about a place that sells Tags? Second Question, I set the date right but how do I set the time? I am a way out out there on the novice scale so bear with me pleassse. ps. i'll try to get som pics up
  12. sorry to spoil the fun v.....i'm a finance guy so i think in numbers. given your guidance, i think it must be a pretty close race (between the straps & the watch)....given how much i've been spending on straps lately, i think i'm headed in the same direction.

ps. with so many nice straps i'm a little surprised you don't have a single greg strap in your collection, especially given how much you like thick straps. i just got a primo tan and it is one nice, thick strap...

Ok.. I wouldn't expect someone really to calculate the price of the straps :) ... But if you want to do that a better comparison for the polle would be to consider the watch used around 3-3,5K and the straps price being new. :D
