  1. i get a similar email every month (originally i bought a one-month membership); it tells me that my subscription is about to expire, then automatically bills my paypal account...

i'd probably prefer to purchase a 6 month or one year subscription, but i haven't been able to figure out how to stop the recurring monthly charges....

    any help mods/admin?

  2. i like to get outside. hiking, wakeboarding, snowboarding, golfing, eating & drinking outdoors (yes i'm considering drinking outdoors a hobby).

i watch my fair share of tv too -- football, lost, grey's, prison break, the OC, survivor, studio 60 (thank goodness for DVRs).

@jfreeman, what are 'escape the room' games?

  3. sometime on a sunday afternoon should work for me...what about the weekend after new years (sunday the 7th).

My vote is for a late brunch on Sunday, maybe a week or two into Jan. If people want to go late on Sunday we will have the time to party and get home before the fat lady sings.

    Watcha' think?

  4. just saw this string of posts....any update from davidsen on this? nice work zetterdawg.

    Update:

Thanks CLS for the good eye and pics.

I got a very large hires scan and tweaked my printing:

    - the M and N were too wide. Fixed that. You were right :)

    - the R was a little too wide. Fixed that.

    - Angle on A was wrong. Fixed that.

    - O was too oval. Fixed that.

    - actual spacing on characters was a little off, the LUMINOR and MARINA do not line up directly under each other. That was fixed.

I sent the files to Davidsen.

  5. macy's on fifth? not exactly sure where that is (a dozen panerais walking into shreve could be more interesting), but i could be down for a bay area gtg. after the holidays would be best for me...

Not proposing any particular date or time but since all those guys are getting all the fun on the other side of the pond, who would be up for it if we had an SF/Bay Area GTG? Would be interesting to see what Macy's on Fifth would do if a dozen or so Panerais walked into the jewelry section all at the same time :D
  6. @usil, i had a similar feeling re: my chrono avenger until i put it on a panerai style sportivo BOB 22/22mm strap w/ brushed OEM style buckle (see pic below). give it a shot -- i think the strap makes the watch on this one. btw, this strap option was inspired by repaustria, who originally put a caramel colored strap on his chrono avenger.

I had to have my Breitling Chrono Avenger and after wearing it a few times it sets in my watch case. I still look at it and consider it every once in a while but never put it on. Don't want to sell it though. I might change my mind some day.

My Breitling Navitimer 'Series Special' was a must have and I do try to wear it every once in a while but it just seems too small any more. I guess that my wearing PAMs has changed my perspective on what size watch I like. This may also be what is effecting my not wearing the Chrono Avenger. There must be a Breitling solution for me but I don't know what it is right now.

  7. @richard tracy, you're not far off. plenty of hoe's on the delta (especially at lost isle!), but as i'm sure you guessed, the hoe portion belongs to tahoe.

the delta & lake tahoe = my two favorite playgrounds. one for the winter, one for the summer. my avatar is actually a picture of my boat -- it's a 1983 mastercraft stars & bars (two tone khaki & brown).

Deltatahoe,.. is that a hoe from the delta ? I can see why you love that combo,..

I have got to get a cordovan strap.... ^_^

  8. very well written pabra -- never thought about a watch like that....

Better explain the nature of watches to your child. Sit her down, remove the stem from the movement and start talking about the birds and the bees. That the stem/crown is a simple thing, straightforward, functional and built for a grand purpose - in the name of equality you can skip the crown-part/superiority and so on. By doing so you can also explain that size doesn't necessarily matter as long as it fits into the hole. Also, if excessive force is used, it could be devastating. The movement on the other hand, boy there's a difference. Complicated, fragile, heavy maintenence. Sure, some are more easily entertained than other and can be functional if they exercise and move around. They should however still be serviced to ensure that it will be happy, and even then it will sometimes also crave a new stem/crown - or worse, use 'pushers' on the side. Thus, the watch could impossibly be gay, well... with the exception of Le Freak, but that one is leaning towards being a hermaphrodite.
  9. i'd have to say my 217 -- i picked it up on a whim from sichuan before he vanished -- it was $143 shipped for the asian unitas version with sapphire crystal. it seemed like a cheap way to see if i could wear a 47mm watch like the fiddy. i never would have guessed that it would become one of my favorite watches -- i think it is a unique piece given the large size and destro style (which i really like).

i think this watch is also my favorite watch/strap combination (217 on europelli shell cordovan with gold stitching). the gold stitching looks amazing with the gold hands, and the europelli shell cordovan straps are top notch. many thanks to subzero for thinking of it first (pic below is also his).

  10. i never cease to be amazed by the level of service we get from our top dealers here. in many cases, in particular with regard to post-sale issues, they go beyond even the highest levels of customer service.

IMHO, nordstroms and top end boutiques like marc jacobs are the only other retailers that provide a service level that even comes close to what our dealers provide.

    dt

Thanks for that. Andrew got back to me and said he'd see what he could do to help! That guy is absoloutley amazing. Wouldnt get his level of service from anyone. Unreal.
  11. note that all wrists are not created equal. people with flat, wide wrists can wear much bigger watches than people with round, cylindrical wrists.

i also have 7.5" wrists, and i'm comfortable wearing 47mm watches -- i have a 217 and recently also picked up a 187. i think part of it is also just getting used to seeing bigger watches on your wrist.

    dt

I've also got small wrists (7.5"") and I've found that 40 mm watches are the upper limit for me. I've got a few 37mm watches (two pateks) that look great... I think that's about the right size for me. I wish I could pull off a 44 mm panerai, but it just looks silly on me.

Good idea on making sure that the Cartier watch you yearn for isn't too big for you.

  12. i wouldn't throw out the 187 just yet. there is something to be said for the monstrous watch factor. i wore mine out last weekend and had several people notice it. it's fun to take it off your wrist and let people check out such an imposing watch. lots of compliments.

    just my $0.02,

    dt

Back to the drawing board. 212 has too many inaccuracies, 187 from what im hearing is too big to be practical and the 196 is hard to come by with right older case.
  13. hi james -- welcome to the promised land of reps (hold on to your wallet).

currently none of our trusted dealers have the 38mm santos 100 rep (just the 42mm size). how small are your wrists? i think you would be surprised what you can pull off...if there is a cartier AD in your area i would go in and try on the 42mm version just to see how it sits on your wrist.

    dt

    Hello Everyone! :bounce:

Just signed up and wanted to know where I can find the Medium (38mm) Cartier Santos 100 rep? I have a small wrist  and would really love to have the medium size.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

    James :)
