  1. while it is kind of fun to see what people look like, i kind of like NOT knowing what people on the forums look like....people's personality come through via their writing.....it's kind of a like reading a book....you form a vision of what you think a particular person is like in your mind's eye.....

here's a picture from my trip to cabo last week....i figure your guys won't mind too much that it's cropped given the lovely lady that is accompaning me in the picture....

  2. So the question is, convincing Mr Watchmaker to take a chance and have a go re-luming my varnished UPO.

i wouldn't dare "convince" anyone to try reluming anything :o

this is not easy work, particularly on models someone has never tried before.

  3. so i've decided to upgrade my iwc 3717 and costeau diver (once it arrives) with new eta valjoux 7750 day & date wheels from cousins UK; the shipping cost for these is a significant portion of the total cost of the wheels, so i figured i'd see if anyone would be interested in going in with me to save on shipping.

i did a group buy for the 45mm PO silix rubber strap to help everyone save on shipping and it worked out well, so i figured might as well give this a shot. i'm looking for maybe three or four other people maximum for this mini-group buy. the day wheels are $6 each and the date wheels are $7.40 each; you can see details in the following links....

for iwc costeau divers: day wheels & date wheels

for iwc pilot's watch (3717): day wheels & date wheels

the shipping cost it is showing just for my order is $16.59; i'm not sure if it will go up when more wheels are added, but i can't imagine it would increase that much.

feel free to PM me or post here if you're interested in going in on a mini-group buy (united states only) -- i'd like to get these ordered by the end of this week.

please respond to this thread or PM me by the end of the day today if you'd like to participate in this mini-group buy.

    thanks for looking :victory:

  4. My policy is coming up for renewal and was just curious [...] when I look at the drawer of gen cases, dials, crowns, date discs, hands, bracelets, and all the movements, it really adds up!

i don't see any reason why these genuine items cannot be insured....i would talk to your insurance company about it -- tell them collecting watches is a hobby and you have lots of spare parts (dials, cases, movements, etc) that you want to make sure are insured. it would probably help if you had receipts of some sort for these, but i'm guessing you can get them insured for replacement value some way or another....

if/when you talk to your insurance company, post back here if you can remember -- i'd be interested to hear what they say about it....

  5. for me it would depend on what the intended use will be.....if you want dressy, i say go for the white dial bce on a leather or crocodile strap....if you want sporty, i'd go for the sfso on a genuine breitling rubber strap....

    hope this helps...

  6. Yes he will relume it. I presume you are asking because of the lume on the inner rotating bezel. I showed him a picture and he seemed to think it is possible. Anyone who can perfectly lume a gen conquistador dial can certainly do this one. ;) But I will not know for sure until he sees it.

this is good news.....the reason i asked is it would seems like it is going to take a lot of lume to do it.....but when it's done, wow :Jumpy:

i think this is a mandatory mod for this watch

i never cease to be amazed at the skills and knowledge of those found here on RWG. while it is intimidating at first, soon you'll find yourself understanding more and more....

have fun learning; i think you'll find that upgrading to VIP is a worthwhile cause -- it will bring your understanding to a whole new level :tu:
