  1. everyone will have differing opinions about who makes the best straps. strapmasters (particularly their XaMas line) is generally regarded as being one of the best, along with dirk, who actually just re-entered the strap selling scene (see his post here on paneristi) -- too bad his new buckles have the ugly dirk cursive writing engraved on them.

part of the appeal of the PAV 91 was that it was one of the original hides that was used to make straps for genuine panerai watches back in 1993 (which was the beginning of the "rebirth" of the brand before the pre-vendome acquisition of panerai in 1997).

  2. Thanks to a head's up from another wonderful member (you know who you are, mwah!), plus having seen V's gorgeous two-fer photos, AND then saw that you broke down and bought the famed PAV 91, deltatahoe...well:

I BOUGHT THE PAV 91!! The Holy Grail of Panerai straps, woo!! :)

    [...]

WOO, I got a strap now that costs more than any either of my PAMs. That's just wrong somehow.

@vbarrett, congrats! i think you'll be pleased with the mario paci PAV 91 -- i received mine yesterday and it is a real looker

  3. Send it to Mr. Sinn's associates for a little refurbishing. Sinn is very good at customer service. I hope that your initial foray into the genuine realm with your Sinn does not discourage you from trying out other genuine watches.

Best of luck. I'm still lookin' for a BUND-issued Sinn EZM-1.

this definitely hasn't turned me off of gens; i posted about it here to dispel the myth that gens never have any of the issues that our reps have.

since i've made the leap for my first gen, i'm actually a little worried that it will be tough not to get another....i'm tempted to treat myself to one genuine watch per year, but this could get a little ridiculous. surely the obsession will subside?

btw, stephane may be responsible for my next gen purchase -- ever since he posted about the new squadra jlc line i've been contemplating this as my next genuine watch :g:

  4. This may be a stupid question but as I have never owned a leather strap before.. how easy is it to change the tang buckle?

typically tang buckles have springbar type pins holding the buckle to the strap...

it should be pretty easy -- you might have to mash down the strap a bit to get at the pin though (not sure if this makes sense or not)....

  5. Regarding the lume it's not so much the tone of light more the fact it seems to lose luminescence after a 3 hours or so. Maybe the lume on the U2 is better or I just got a stinker?

interesting. i'll remember to take a look at the staying power of the lume on my u2 this weekend -- it should glow forever after being outside on a boat all day.

fwiw, i checked the watchbuy's website re: the lume on the u1 and u2; both descriptions say that they come with super luminova.

    deltatahoe

  6. Also I don't know what the lume is like on your U2 but it's pretty weak on my U1- an area of improvement for Sinn I think.

the lume on my u2 is actually really good (it's super luminova), it's definitely similar to my pams. white super luminova is just a bit less luminous than the greenish (c3, i believe?) super luminova; i wonder if that is why you think it is pretty weak...:g:

Top watches and just in case you ever damage the crystal I got a quote from Sinn for replacement-
  7. As the ex-owner of more than 10 Rolex Submariner/Seadweller reps I can confirm you have to get deeper into the madness before you come out the other side.........I worked out I'd spent more on buying and modding my collection than the real thing..... :bangin:

.......but by great caesar's ghost I had a good time doing it.

    exactly :D

collecting reps is FUN -- that's one of the things that helps me justify the ongoing expense -- it's not just about the watches. i really enjoy myself while learning about watches and interacting in this great community.

  8. Great collection in that you posted. You have some really great straps to go with your watches.

If you ever decide to sell that BCE, I'd be interested. I'm upset that I read they no longer make the white dial and that's the one I want. Will have to settle for the TT white/gold if not. :(

thanks re: the collection/strap compliments....i need to update my thread....i've added quite a few watches since i last updated it :o

wow -- i hadn't heard that re: the white dial bce  it is the classiest version of the bce imho -- i can't believe they wouldn't make more dials...

  9. Maybe I'll be proven wrong but I bet that that does not happen to me.

Quite frankly, I always wonder why people end up buying the "same watch". Many of the PAMs I see appear to just be subtle variations of the same. Some are more different than others in terms of having a date mag or being a chrono or Ti instead of SS, etc. but more or less they look pretty similar in style.

I like the base PAMs the best from all the pics I've seen (only ever saw a Radiomir in person) and I have a fully-modded 112H on the way (or delivered already; as I'm away again) so I guess I'll soon discover if I have to choke on my words. To me, the beauty of Panerai is the large variety of straps out there and how easy it appears to be to totally change the look of the watch based on what strap you put on it.

consider yourself warned. don't get mad at me when i say "i told you so"

  10. I've noticed a lot of people seem to buy more than one PAM

whatever you do, don't buy one of those ugly hockey pucks. because if you do, pretty soon you will have 8 pams, at least 16 straps and several trips to ziggy for mods :o

panerai.....bet you can't buy just one.

  11. I can supply the wheels, but my costs are $25 each, for $50 total...I think Cousins is somewhat cheaper, if you can get them, so your choice really, if you have them great, if you can't get them, I can. I dont' make any money on them, just pass on the costs.

just an aside for anyone out there wanting the ETA valjoux wheels -- the wheels can be purchased from cousins for ~$6.00 for day wheels and ~$7.40 for date wheels; shipping to the US is expensive though -- about $17 for my mini group buy. you can see my mini-group buy thread for links to the different wheels.

@euno, she's a beauty  i'll be sending mine to ziggy shortly for the same upgrades (less the movement swap)....i can't wait :victory:

  12. I stopped playing hardball when I saw an old friend onboard a flight to New York.......I cried over to him 'Hi Jack"........it went down like a lead flotation device......and quicker than Paris at a bukkake convention......air marshall was not at all pleased......what's in a name......I say tomato ...you say tomayto.....potato ..potayto...let's call the whole thing off....!

    total gems ttk :victory:
