  1. Yeah, gen RXW is a homage of the original IMHO. I have never done any business with southerncross, I bought mine from the bay. The rep rep looks ok. Pretty good price. You can do some molding on it, but it will be difficult to find a sapphire crystal for it that looks like one on RXW. Vaccum makes pretty nice fiddy homages with sapphire crystals. He sells his for approx 600 bucks (two year old price)

  2. Hi all,

Lately I have been wanting a Breitling Bentley Flying B. I know the rep may be thicker than gen, but it's just so hot! I like all the different colored dials, but I'm planning on only getting one. Could you please tell me which one is more closer to gen? Wrist shots are also appreciated (try to figure out how big it will be on my 7.5" wrist)!

    Thanks!

  3. Some links for you:

Gen is very nice, well finished. One thing I can tell rep from gen is the shape of the crown. On gen, the crown is very flat on top whereas it's some what domed on the rep. On the gen the sapphire creates interesting vertical distortion on the number 6 and 12.

    Here is mine:

Ever since a Rolex dealer serviced mine, I have never opened my case. But, these are what I found on the web. Sometimes the best way to tell a rep from gen is to open the case. Good luck!

Note: The ETA 2892 movements used in Breitling chronographs have been modified by the addition of a chronograph module by Dubois/Depraz.[citation needed]

  5. What about using a 2892 with a Dubois Depraz chrono module? Which Navi's had that movement (if any?)

It's in Bentley Flying-B Chronograph (Cal 44), Navitimer 92 (Cal 30), Navitimer Olympus (Cal 19), Navitimer Heritage (Cal 35), Navitimer QP 95 (Cal 18), Navitimer 1952 SE (Cal 41), Navitimer Spatiographe (Cal 36), Navitimer Twin Sixty (Cal 39), Navitimer Twin Sixty 2 (Cal 39), Navitimer Premier (Cal 40)...

They are pretty much all over the board with modified 2892 movement. The problem is, to franken Navitimer, one not only needs to source the movement, also the dial and correct case... That becomes difficult IMHO.

  6. No the cases are different. The movements are the same, but the tricompax has extra transfer gears on top of the datewheel. The amount that the datewheel is recessed is equal to the amount that the crown tube has been moved toward the back of the case. Just imagine the transfer gears as a spacer of sorts, it pushes the entire movement back about one millimeter. So the case is modified to accept the movements new position. Because the 7753 has the same dimensions as a 7750, it will only fit in the 6,9,12 case.

The other issue is that the date window on a 7753 is slightly more outboard than a 7750, so the rep dial simply won't work with the 7753 movement, you need a gen dial. Lastly, there is no way to advance the date beyond durning the hour hand 24 complete rotation for each single day. I once had a Navi with a broken date set, and believe me, you don't want to do that.

Personally, build a perfect Navi, and put the date button at 10:00. Not perfect, but the best we'll get.

I don't mind that at all. Navitimer with date button, I can live with that.

  7. this is a new can of worms for you; how about alloy's that they use for the watch and or PVD? that is direct contact skin-metal, metal is abrasive and has more impact to the skin then rubber straps. do we know what is really in the "iron". i know one thing; rep 316 steel isnt as half hard as real one. they are saying that but in real life materials used in reps are way softer. i am jeweler and not a technologist but i know what i know and something is fishy in rep alloys. i would be more afraid of titanium rep case if i was in your place.

Metal? That's interesting. I thought they are more stable than rubber... I'm no chemist, I could be totally off base. I certainly don't want anything that has lead in it at least.

  8. most health issues will come from people handling the manufacturing not by wearing it. Again you will have a rash before any health effects happen. Relax and enjoy your watches.

I don't think you will necessarily develop a rash before anything happen. For example, birth control patches don't develop a rash, yet the chemical gets observed into your body. Some of them have been proven to be harmful.

  9. Hmm... I don't use those neither...

But, I see your point. I guess what I worried about mainly on the rep rubber since they were not regulated by anybody. It's really up to the rep manufactures. The probably use the cheapest and widely available material they can find. As for the deodorants, I think they are regulated. I mean we won't buy rep deodorants.

  10. Seems to me there are some many materials to make rubber straps, silicone based vs natural rubber vs some other kind.

What made me starting to think about this topic was that I recently noticed there were warning labels on some of the black rubber stuff sold in the stores. The message is something like this rubber may contain lead or things, birth defect, etc, etc.

My question is should I be worried / cautious about the actual material that makes our favorite watch straps? The rep industries are certainly not bounded with any liabilities.

Any thoughts? Hopefully this is an interesting topic for you.
