  1. Very sweet. I like that watch a LOT more than I expected to, and I expected to like it. Wear it well, sir.
  2. Worth a look for a laugh, sigh, or a cry. The old Panerai page is quite the gem. hxxp://www.hodinkee.com/blog/2010/9/21/use-the-wayback-machine-to-revisit-the-horological-webs-form.html Replace the X's with T's.
  3. And there's one for sale quite cheap on RG right now. Something worth taking a look at, in the very least.
  4. From a passive, inquisitive lurker, I applaud your milestone. I have to agree with you in saying there's something about this place, over all the other forums out there, that keeps me engaged. The quality of the posts, the depth of knowledge and expertise, and the generally helpful and genial environment make this a a great place. Here's to your next 1,000!
  5. Having pored over the PP site for the better part of the last hour, my impression of the Nautilus has changed subtly. I don't think they ever pushed the Nautilus as a tool watch; rather, it appears to be a watch simply inspired by nautical heritage. The case design is an "avant-garde" shape drawn from that of a ship's porthole, and given that the watch was introduced in 1976 (over 20 years after the Submariner and its marine innovations)the lack of a dive extension or rotating bezel seems to be a conscious decision in the interest of form over function. Personally, I'll take an SD any day.
  6. I've actually been wondering the same thing. I'm a huge fan of diver/tool watches, but this one has always perplexed me. The new PP ad campaign, however, helps to dissolve some of the mystery for me: "You never really own a Patek Philippe, you merely look after it for the next generation." With a picture of a wealthy looking man and his foppish, creepy, fay looking son. Not very tool watchy to me. In my humblest of opinions, a tool watch is designed to have the tar beaten out of it in the field and still look sharp enough (albeit abused) to wear sipping a victory cocktail after.
  7. Feeling very deep this Paddy's Day, wearing my new Cousteau Divers '07 courtesy DVN. Cheers!
  8. Seeing Lani's supersweet Doxa wristie this morning made me curious: what are people's thoughts on the reissues. The gens (not that there seems to be any kind of rep scene for them) seem like they're priced to move: the 1000T is available through their website for $1490. Anyone have any experience with the new Doxas out there? D
  9. So I was walking past the newsstand in Harvard Square this morning and saw Moz on the cover of the newest issue of Filter Magazine. Not one to pass up an article on the man, I cracked open the issue. Right on the first page of the article, a full 2-page spread photo of Morrissey leaning on Johnny Ramone's grave repping dual PAMs (looks like the PAM299, but hard to tell). The rest of the article features a number of photos of him sporting the two watches. I'm sure it has some particular Moz/Oscar Wildean significance (hearing aid anyone?). Much as I love the guy, it's hard to imagine he's all that miserable sporting so much flash...
  10. Just got back from vacation in Denver (which, mind you, was 50 degrees, gorgeous, sunny, not a cloud in the sky for the last week) to 5 inches of fresh snow in Boston. All this means that my connecting flight from Dallas to Boston was cancelled, I got rerouted via St Louis (with a couple 1.5 hour layovers in the mix), landed at Logan 4 hours later than scheduled, and they lost my skis! For all the complaining I'd love to do, I got back to my apartment to find out my most recent purchase had arrived. I bought the budget Asian SFSO with a black dial from dvn last Monday, and it arrived just a couple days later (about an hour after my flight departed). Truly, everything the rest of the forum has said about this watch is on point. Rather than beat a dead horse, let's just say I'm supremely happy with the purchase. I've got a gen Pro Diver strap for it on the way, should be arriving tomorrow. I'll post pics when I get the chance. Scorecard: a handful of posts, about three weeks of RWG-ing (lurking and searching), and I've got 3 watches to my name. Talk about catching the bug... Cheers, d
  11. Well, my first rep showed up this morning. Popped the cherry with the Arktos "Ultimate." I figured with all the cold weather we're getting here in Boston it was an appropriate choice... Cheers, d
  12. Hi All, Thought I'd get the first post under my belt. I'm a brand new, glistening, noob, and just soaking up the information. Thanks Toad for the fantastic noob guide; it's kept my eyes occupied (and exhausted) for the better part of the last two days. This looks like a truly great community. Cheers, dave
