  1. Looking pretty darn good IMO... you're almost there! :clapping:

How come you're thinking about recoating the lever pin in PVD? I'm pretty certain that most of the 203/A (pictures) that I've seen, the pin is left uncoated in SS. Best description I can give is that it's slightly brushed concentrically, some pics look polished and slightly darkened but it looks good in the raw SS form. What are your thoughts on this?

Yes, it seems some photos show it as PVD, others seem plain steel... Here's some gen shots:

Right now, the dial plate and waterproof issues are at the top of the list. I just can't seem to think about taking it off my wrist for the time it will take to fix! :Jumpy:

  2. Thanks for the compliments guys... it still needs some work, but it's ok for the time being...

The CG lever is too tight and the dial sub-plate is too thick, so it doesn't wind properly yet :(

Need to fix these issues for it to be complete.

Anybody have a spare dial plate with seconds at 9 by any chance?

  3. D mate, it looking good! I wish one day I will be able to build one of this too. Im still waiting to do my 201a and 202a.

My EOD movement in the other hand was broken and damaged. Now I need a new movement, which is way expensive. Cost like a new watch altogether! damn..

    enjoy yours mate!

you can get an asian 7750 for cheap... I told you not to change the date between 9pm and 3am... ever

  4. Sorry to hear about the dramas you've had so early in the game... Yes, it can be frustrating at times, but my experience is that it's much more rewarding!!

We all know that Gens never break and come perfect from the box every time.

FYI, A friend of mine just bought a $25,000 AP Rubberclad... He got it home and it wasn't working properly (major issue). He brought it back to the AD and they told him they'll have to send it away... could take 3 months to get it back! They finally agreed to a full refund after he had to raise his voice and cause some commotion :whistling: :whistling:

  5. Finally got my 203A back from my watchsmith :thumbsupsmileyanim:

    Case: Unknown

    CG: Unknown

    Crown: Unknown

    Dial: FGD

    Crystal: DSN

    Movement: ETA/DSN

    Hands: Tritium

    Back: Jacob

    DLC: opcrown

There's still more work to be done, but I just wanted to have some time on my wrist before I send it back for some tweaks:

    • The plate between the movement and the dial is too thick by about .2mm :black_eye:
    • Needs a new case tube
    • Needs a new crown
    • Will replace the hands with FGD hands just received
    • Need to polish or replace CG pin, and I think PVD coat it

Other than above, I'm very happy with it! It's so beautiful on my wrist, can't stop looking at it :whistling:

7 Years in this hobby and still loving Panerai!!!

    Enjoy!

  6. I measured a bunch a while back, did some plans, and made up some tubes. You really need to custom build each one to the case, crown and crown guard you are combining. Also genuine crowns with o-rings on the crown need a smooth bore tube, as opposed to the rep style, where the o-rings are inside the tube. (and the crown shaft is smooth)

Also not all genuine crowns are the same, I've got 4-5 here and they are all different diameters inside and different offsets.

I do not currently have a lathe or I'd make one up for you, but I can dig around and try to find the various measurements I used if it helps. I did find that each tube really had to be made over length and test fitted, then recut to get the crown offset, and hence the locking point of the CG correct. Due to the rebate in the case where the tube sits, and the shaping of the CG mounting point it really isn't practical to get perfect measurements before you start.

I made mine using a cheap chinese mini lathe, however this was only just accurate enough for the job, you really need minimum of a Sherline or similar with a collet chuck to do the job properly.

Wow! Thanks for that info Logan...

Yes, it seems there are too many variables to make these in production.

I have a tube I will try from the supplier of this case, but I'm not sure if it will be the right measurements.

I'm also worried about the case tube hole in the case.

When I got the case, the tube was all marred and crappy at the crown face... now after taking the tube out... the bore is also quite marred and crappy

On top of that, the face

So... in the end, I don't know if I'm going to need a whole new case and crown for this to work :black_eye:

  7. Yeah... I got that email from Nick in Sydney too...

Pretty funny read, but that guy (Nick) really gets on my nerves... His latest scheme is selling really friggin expensive books... I think the guy's losing it to tell the truth... his prices are incredibly expensive... but that's another issue ;)

On the Melbourne website, I can't see it lasting long, I hope it doesn't hurt our hobby and put unwanted attention on reps.

The watches on it are utter canal street crap and way overpriced.

I'd stick to our trusted dealers here ;)

  8. Can some of you guys give me some input on dimensions to make Luminor manual winding case tubes?

I have this beautiful 203A case all waiting to go together, but I need a new tube, as the one on it is trashed

I need to confirm for the CNC machinist and to make a drawing for him.

If needed here, I will make a bunch of them and sell them here if you guys think it's a necessary item.
