  1. Have you given Don or BOB straps a look?

Don's especially would seem to fit many of the specifications exactly...

    Thanks, Jonathan.

The problem with Don is just that he does not declare the thickness of his straps. Do you know which it is, by chance?

As for BOB, he seems not to love the 24/22 size. I would also prefer linear, straight stitch rather than the 'twisted' stitch of his Vertigo models.

  2. I have to admit I am not an expert on 192, but it seems a good rep.

You may look at the gen here.

It also has a similar movement (Lemania 1874) to gen (Lemania 1872) -- cote de Geneve decoration included.

And the metal spacer generically tells of a well-made watch.

For what it counts, personally the 192 is the model I like most among all Luminor chrono models.

About PVD: even the fake 'PVD' coating on reps makes the surface a little harder to get scratched.

  3. Ok... I used to be a bracelet guy, but I'm going to take the plunge on a couple straps for my (hopely) incoming PVDed PAM 028a (black or gray strap), and my gold-hand PAM 104 (brown strap).

    My ideal specs were:

    1 - Thickness between 4mm and 5mm (ideally 4.5 - 5mm).

2 - No thickness taper, same thickness on all the strap, borders same as middle (vintage style, I read).

3 - 24/22. (That 22 size at the buckle is because my PVD buckle is 22. And, as for the other strap, I cannot exclude that one day I may try to fit a deployant clasp on it).

    4 - Contrast stitch.

    5 - Low cost (under 50 USD).

Browsing here and there, I found that Hirsh Liberty model does match my specs almost literally. Even if the seller applies a scandalous 52 USD shipping fee to here, they still are at about my desired price, and I could make the buy more convenient by buying a third strap, as shipping fee stays the same up to 10 pieces.

But looking at the pictures, I am a little suspicious about their overall quality, expecially in the inside of the band, and expecially in the marked areas:

    55353-35592.jpg

I am also completely unaware about the softness, comfort, durability, and so on, of Hirsh products...

So, any of you strap experts has any advices / experiences / suggestions for me about those straps?

Or can you point me to other models matching the specs I said above?

    Really thanks,

    :sss:

P.S.: yes, they used a rep in those pictures!

  4. And my newly re-assembled PAM 28a is standing by all beautiful in it's new PVD finish and Tritiumised dial!!!

My 028a instead is still waiting its PVD case, new datewheel, new cyclops, and AR coating... :(

But a member here already did quite a good job on its relume! :D

@schultz: are you going to put one of the new cyclopses on a 050??? Wow, you really love to read the date...

(apologies, folks -- just small talking to kill the time while waiting) :gathering:

  5. Folks, I am skeptic too about the height issue, I was just quoting from the book.

In case I made a bad translation, here is the 'original' Italian version. If there is any bi-lingual member here, pls feel free to give your contribution.

orologi-cronografi di grandi dimensioni fanno apparire più alti.

The Authors wrote several books on the matter, and they are quite universally recognized and appreciated as good experts, IMO.

  6. To friends, I say it is a rep (but they don't have to ask, they know I am a rep nuts).

To anyone else: I remove the watch from my wrist and pass it to him, saying 'Judge on yourself'.

This makes for a chance to know another watch lover and to talk with him about watches and reps.

99% of people just says 'Nice watch' and gives it back to me. End of enquirings.

To any watch lover (0.5%), I say it is a rep. Not because I am frightened (I say that even if he judged it genuine), but for mutual respect between sharers of a same interest, and to promote further conversation.

Remaining 0.5% just says 'I am unable to judge on myself'. Then I ask: 'So, how came that you asked?' (I am trying to understand whether their question aimed to personal attack or what). From now on, I just improvise -- but the focus of the conversation already shifted from the watch to the interlocutor, so it's he that now has to be on the defensive side, if he is ill-intentioned.

Finally, if I know that he is a dumbass that measures people on their money, I fool it with no pity nor remorse.

P.S.: Percentage figures are projections. I've not been asked 100 times.

  7. I was reading a funny book on non-verbal communication, "The Definitive Book of Body Language", by Allan & Barbara Pease.

On the end of chap. 16 they say:

(I hope to translate exactly enough, it's an English translation of an Italian translation of an English book...)

Large sized watches-chronographs make look taller.

    ...

The smaller the size of the watch that one wears, the lesser the image of authority that one is conveying.

So, you all PAM-skepticals out there, you got your answer now. :D

  8. Of course.. NO SERIAL NUMBER.. and Brushed pushers (instead of polished)

SUbdials size and many many more..

V, all you said is correct, naturally...

...but that Brushed pushers (instead of polished) is a master's touch! :notworthy:

  9. With all those exciting news currently coming about crowns, datewheels, cyclopses, relumes, and AR coating, I think that a 029 could come quite close to the gen.

Now that I think about it, Finepics stands behind 90% of all mods...

  10. The replica 090's use a movement that shares more than a passing resemblance to an ETA 2892, although it is unquestionably of Asian origin, and is terribly reliable and accurate.

I beg you pardon, r11co, my English is playing tricks on me now. Did you use 'terribly' meaning sort of 'terrific'?

In other words, are you satisfied from your 090, or else?

  11. maybe one of the admins could clearup the links/competition/hate/history between TRC/RWG and so on in the board faq´s?

for me as a freshman is´s quite mysterious.

Absolutely no competition between RWG and TRC (we even share the same Admin!).

There have been some occasional flames between members of RWG -- so someone of them migrated to TRC and/or WT and/or RWI.

There also have been some occasional flames between two or three incarnations of a same member in different forums -- quite correctly, they migrated to lunatics' asylums.

And in the old RWG I days there has been a diaspora away from Blade and some mods of Rongom and others, who gave rise to WT.

As it has been said, all forums (no, I won't spell 'fora' -- do you say 'asyla', by chance?) have their special taste, and we are free to be members of them all.

    What better? :D
