  1. I don't have the material time to make the things anymore (and I don't believe that it will also assist me the mind considering that I don't succeed in going out of my depression anymore).

Looking through the newspapers I see for a long time the straps of the PANERAI and not me like particularly.

I had thought therefore to draw a project of a sporting strap for the PANERAI.

I know that also to Vladimir loves these watches.

Then if some member is interested and even some measure furnishes me in millimeters of reference for the PANERAI and its fibia (sssurfer ????).

I will draw the project and I will make available for everybody.

I hope that my work can like and that someone remembers a free leather strap for dadog13....

Great project, Mahler, and thanks from all us PAM aficionados!

Straps for 44 PAMs are 24/24mm and 24/22mm, as lug-to-lug distance is always 24mm, while buckles are 24mm or 22mm.

I am sure that a member even posted a draw of a PAM strap, but I am currently unable to find it again. Maybe it was for a 47mm PAM, though.

  2. I have oiled the strap some more and it's darker now and stinks of linseed oil :brow:

It should turn a little lighter in a few months by wearing it, especially under the sunlight (thank's God we are in summer! :D)

I also have blisters on my thumb from smoothing the leather to take out the scratches

LOL! This is a thing that I know even too well! May I join the club?

Any ideas on how I can change the stitching colour without changing the strap?

I have been quite succesful by simply using a magic pen/marker. I just touched each single stitch point one or two times (as needed) with the pen's pin, front and back, and the thread sucked the ink on its own.

    I posted the result here.

Should the stitching become too dark, you may make it lighter again just by touching each single stitch point again with a thin brush soaked in bleach.

EDIT: Uhm, on a second thought, oil might prevent the stitching from absorbing the ink now. Better trying on the back side at first.

  3. I like the strap (as well as the watch, naturally!).

But, as you asked for honest opinions, I'll also tell you about the only 2 points that I think they could make it even better.

First, I would see it with a contrast stitching. And, feeling adventurous, with a darker-than-strap stitching. I would say: dark brown.

Second, I also made the mistake to use glass paper once, and I'll never use it (or any other mechanical means) to distress a strap again.

You have been quite successful in preserving the stitching from becoming a mess, but the texture of mechanical distressing is still visible on the strap surface and I think that the strap would look even better if it were a little smoother.

I am still wondering on how to correct this issue, though. I am going to try with generous amounts of macadamia oil -- but, honestly, I am unsure about the result.

This was just to encourage a discussion, I don't want to seem overcritic. It is a great strap as it is anyway.

  4. Personally, I do not agree with the majority of replies here -- a little with kanerich's and Quark's.

I feel as that guy was not trying to call out anyone on a rep, but that he could be a honest rep lover. Unfortunately not an educated one, and with quite a goofy way to start a conversation on reps.

100% he did not spot the rep, he just stroke in the dark and casually hit the point.

I think you did the best by acting the way you did.

  5. Sapphire is a synthetic material, so yeah, this is a tautology really, but what dealers mean is fake sapphire, or simply put, crap window glass.

That is exactly the use I would not enforce.

Actually, I was not speaking about a tautology -- which is not, as natural sapphire does exist, even if it is not used in watch crystals.

I was speaking about the fact that anytime a dealer passes glass for synthetic sapphire that is an intentional misguise and I think we all should discourage it.

  6. @Chronus: thanks for the info, mate!

I also agree on the Tantalium vs Tantalum issue.

Still, to me, high weight in a watch is a defect rather than a merit.

@tino: gorgeous watch! Congrats! Is it a gen, or did you replace the crown?

Btw, great first post after a 3 months silent membership. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  7. The crystal is 'apparently' a synthetic sapphire... not sapphire but also not your typical mineral crystal from what I am told..

David, let's not encourage dealers in playing with words :). Synthetic sapphire is sapphire.

If it is not sapphire, it is not synthetic sapphire either, it is something different.

    I wonder what it is...

  8. Tai Chi Chuan is very good for meditation as well as learning self-defence.

I did a Shaolin style called Nam Pai Chuan.

I also have a lot of respect for Aikido, Ju-jitsu and Sambo style. Great for self-defence too.

Tae-kwon-do is just flashy and not useful for self-defence, 70% cannot be used in close quarters.

As you know, Ronnie, I cannot speak about soccer -- but I see we found several shared "sports" in the end! ;)

  9. Thanks :) I'm drewling as I watch Perfect Clones 028 PVD Power Reserve... I want it so bad :Jumpy:

The one with the 2892-2 inside? I got it! Great choice! The best movement you can get! :Jumpy:

    Mine is:

    Already relumed by Finepics...

Already provided with a Lello's crown...

Waiting for PVD coating from palpatine...

Waiting for a new PVD crown from palp as well...

Waiting for a new datewheel from Finepics...

Waiting for a new cyclops from the Watchmen...

In the end: it is more than 6 months that I can't enjoy it... :(

  10. 7mm cyclops! Why are we not seeing a date photo then??

Did you brush finish the case on the 104 as it should be all polished?

    Nice strap!

About date: even that 7mm cyclops does not make for any significant improvement in magnification, it rather seems just a cosmetic improvement (quite a pleasant one, though).

Also the datewheel font is the usual shitty one -- nothing to compare with the 050 datewheel -- so that overall date redability is as bad as usual.

But another finding I may add: the crystal is internally milled to get a place to the cyclops!!!

I just wonder why they took the trouble to do all those improvements, still they did not add a better lens and a better datewheel!

About the case: it came as you see it: brushed. Exactly the day before I had finished brushing a case for this watch, and it came brushed already! :wallbash:

Yes, I know that the 104 is supposed to have a polished case... but that strap was absolutely demanding a brushed case... and I got my 2nd pleasant surprise by getting it exactly as I needed it! :)

If only had I not brushed the other case too! :wallbash: :wallbash:

@all: thanks for your kind appreciation!

Strap was made by bleaching a chocolato strap, then colouring the stitching with a green magic marker, then bleaching again the stitching only. I suppose that colouring the stitching before bleaching all at once would perform similarly.

  11. I am still unable to figure out why should anyone use Tantalum (formerly Tantalium) rather than Titanium in a watch -- 3-4 x weight, and almost the same resistance (unless you plan to wear it in a nuclear reactor, naturally :) ).
