  1. your following me again...... stalker.. stalker .... :p

    WAZZAPPNIN HERE?!?

    ----

Thanks lanikai for the OP link. As you look so fond of OP history, may I point you to the book "Panerai Historia" by Giampiero Negretti? Maybe there is some English translation out there.

Thanks vbarrett for the Alpha heads up! I think I just found my source for crystal and lug screws replacements for my 147. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  2. I don't know, but I would like to tell you my story here.

It was a long time I liked watches, and/but I never heard about Panerai. I was after AP, PP, IWC, VC, Breitling, all those brands of good taste, history, classy look, that you all are well aware of.

A couple years ago, while browsing a wristwatch book for another brand whose name began with "P" (I am now even unable to remember which brand it was, go figure), I stumbled upon the Panerai pages. Just a couple pages on a 400+ pages book. There were an Egiziano and a vintage model.

Wow, I thought. Strange, but... how appealing. I fell in love istantaneously.

Shortly after I discovered RWG -- and there were literally thousands of PAM enthusiasts (and rep enthusiasts as well) exactly like me! Unbelievable.

    My fate was decided. :cupidarrow:

  3. Awesome watch and view! Congrats!

Would you tell us anything more about the comments by that complete stranger on the watch?

Did he know of PAMs, or was he just a man of good taste, or what? :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Btw: hairy arms just add to watch appeal.

At least in my personal-and-all-but-unbiased opinon. B)

  4. do all the hands on the bell & ross instrument collection glow blue?

Unsure I get the correct meaning of your question (poor English speaker here, apologies).

If you mean which genuine models have blue hands and indices, the only models that also come in blue are the BR01-92 Limited Edition and the BR01-94 (both 46mm models).

If you mean whether all the three hands on blue models are lumed in blue: yes, they all are.

  5. Thanks all vb, LordRasta, deltatahoe, SubFrog, Stephane, timgroth, docblackrock, kenberg, V, cornerstone, chieftang and Pix for your kind words and/or appreciation!

I had a great a time, but, honestly, I missed you and the RWG company.

    Yes, B., the 050 performed perfectly. :)

Stephane, sad now to see you depart from great part of your astounding collection. :(

Vicky, you may figure I extensively checked my scuba fellows and any other hotel guests' wrists for their watches.

Still, I saw NO interesting watches :o -- with exception for a quite boring genuine Rolex TT sub on a fellow diver.

I suppose we are just a bunch of watch geeks...

  6. Maybe it lacks a small pin+spring ensemble that should stay below the bezel, in a small hole of the case.

You should try removing the bezel and check. Be cautious: if the pin and spring are there, the spring uses to throw the pin into 4th dimension as soon as you remove the bezel.

To remove the bezel, a watchsmith knife is the best tool in my experience*. Place its edge between the bezel and case, and make lever action. At least, this works on Omega bezels.

    *Too thin blades will chip.

  7. no matter if I agree with the topic or not (anti-Christianity, etc.) I know it will come from a first-class mind -- that's what counts! :)

    Whoa, thanks!

Anyway, no religion issues... not directly, at least... it is just a scientific (but in plain words, as far as my co-author and I have been able on such a though subject) book about mind and consciousness.

(Btw, I am anti-religious, but not especially anti-Christian. There are much worse religions around).

Ah well. Yes, it speaks that you don't waste your $5000 on a $500 watch. ;)

    Sacred words!

    A confession, my dear Sssurfer.

I am the biggest flirt in the world!

    A confession, my dear Vicky.

I actually had a feeling of it!

    Sounds like Rio...

I cannot properly enjoy having lived in South America, not because I had a bad standard of living. On the contrary, we lived like royalty. But who can enjoy their fortune with so much ENDEMIC poverty around?

    Exactly!

Btw, the island and hotel were we were located are all but expensive to tourists, I don't want to sound like a King Midas.

Ah, I looked it up because in my mind, langouste and lobster are the same. Langouste (I'm guessing you translated this from aragosta) is closer to crayfish.

Yes Vicky, I was meaning aragosta. I checked my dictionary and I came out unable to make my mind about which word to use. In the end, I choosed the word that sounded more French-like in consideration of your French speaking.

Thanks for pointing me to the right word! I know you are not used to correct your interlocutors, but I would really appreciate it if you will help me this way with my English any time.

  8. Thanks all, fellows!

I hope you will forgive me if I take this occasion to have some small talk with our Lady. ;)

Welcome back, Sssurfer! I can't believe the latest shots from Action Man.

    Thanks, Vicky, bentrovata to you!

Just, I am an intellectual rather than an action man... go figure, next year should be released my book...

Considering you could've used your gen PAMs, this speaks a lot that you would take the 050 with you.

Uhm, I have no gen PAMs... I suppose this speaks even more about me :)

Is yours the tapered kind of bracelet?

Yes, 22mm at the lugs and 20mm at the buckle.

    BTW, nice hotel!

You like the hotel, Vicky? Here are a few shots:

    hotelnightuy8.jpg

    hotelinternalsao6.jpg

Like all good men, you are taken. Drat.

but always available for good flirting with very selected ladies

how did you like the country? How was the local cuisine, e.g.?

Honestly, I cannot say I came to know Madagascar. I stayed in one of the best hotels of Nosy Be, an island considered the Montecarlo of Madagascar. But I had a few trips outside, and poverty was overwhelming.

People is very very poor, but they look serene. Still, prostitution to tourists is one of their main sources of income. We had a couple trips to town discos, and we had to literally take the hands of girls off us. You could rent a girlfriend (they said a "fiancee") for a whole week, night and day, at a risible price.

Even in the town, people had no electric light. Night clubs make their own light by machinery.

About their cuisine: it looked as their national dish was langouste and lobster. I never eat so many langoustes and lobsters in a row (and in a week). I love them, but in the end I could not even look at them anymore. And their meat is not for me. They have no cows but zebus, and that meat was though and even too tasteful. Vegetables were even too spiced to me.

Fruit was obviously exceptional, especially papayas and mangos.

    Even with the Speedo.

Hey! That was not a Speedo!

And sorry, I hate boxers for bathing and swimming. :)

I didn't leave a welcome back message this time, on your profile, as I thought you might think I were stalking you.

If I had thought it, that would just have been to my delight.

Thanks Vicky, and sorry for your bronchitis. I really hope you get well soon.

  9. Shots from a recent holiday in Madagascar.

I took with me my 050 (it is one of my few reps that I feel I would never get called out on it, and it also is waterproof tested).

Should three watch pics be too few in order to qualify this thread for the Panerai area, mods please move it wherever you like (I was unable to decide an appropriate sub-gallery in the Photography area).

    The arrival and a wristshot:

Going scuba diving... not too bad places, IMHO:

(I have to admit the 2nd pic was not taken by me, it was provided by a friend and I suspect he took it from the net)

Not just scuba diving... Madagascar also has nice land attractions:

To reach our forest trekking place whe had to do some pirogue work...

I had Lara Crof right in front of me as my guide!

But don't get too excited... I also had wifey right behind me as my guardian ;):

    Thanks all for looking!

  10. Guns...in any form....are not the problem. The real problem is society.

Almost correct. But the problem is man rather than society. Man ("human" world intentionally missed) society arises whenever and everywhere two men meet, but even a single man is dangerous to any other living beings. Man (as well as Macacus Rhesus and other beings provided with machiavellan intelligence) is obviously a cancer to Earth. Agent Smith was right.

Great, you fix society, then you can have your guns okay?

    Naturally.

Btw, do you think that forbidding weapons would fix man/society?

In the country where I live guns are forbidden. The obvious result is that only criminals have guns.

My only weapons are reduced to knives, my car, my body, and my anatomical and physiological knowledge. But I can assure you that I would not hesitate a second to killl (or severely wound, depending on the threat) anyone who threatens me or my family, if I were given a chance. In case of threat, guns only decide who hits first, and I regret of almost surely being the last one who can hit.

And -- not just to give a false impression about me -- I am one who never attacks on his own initiative, one who takes care of others (literally), one who cares not to even crush ants under his foot when he walks.

  11. Uhm.

Steradent and similars are very effective on white ceramic dials. But your dial looks metallic.

H2O2, bleach, and similar oxiding agents might give a transient improvement, but then they might make it even worse as stain is an oxidation process.

If I were you, I would, in order:

1 - Try some physical means (i.e. Rodico)

2 - Live with it (in the end, that is a vintage dial).

3 - Try some of those anti-stain-spot liquids for tissues/clothes.

  12. Back. :)

Chieftang, I am pleasantly surprised to read that your source might be able to make sapphire layers provided with a hole. If he can, naturally this would be great both for the AR and the glue refraction problems.

And obviously a single sapphire crystal with a hole embedded would be even better -- just, I am a bit dubious this is possible. If it is, I suspect that cost might become an issue.

In any case, my suggestions about the dimensions stay the same: 3.5mm central thickness, 2.5mm edge thickness, 1.4mm hole depth.

Btw, I am strongly persuaded that recessing the cyclops is the only way to go to 7mm diameter cyclops.

  13. I did E-mail King for a price, is this the only way to get prices from King's site?

As far as I know: yes.

Btw, I subscribe all Hambone's warnings to you about reps in general and PAMs especially. And his welcome to the forum.

If you are really fond about reps and horlogery I suggest you take a minute to have a look here and consider upgrading your membership. This will highly help you in taking the best out of your money and the greatest fun out of the forum.

  14. I'll assume that the $328 model is that from Josh or Andrew, and the $255 model is that from Silix.

Silix does not state the movement as 28800 bph.

He also says 'working chrono at 9', which is curious as the subdial at 9 is supposed to be running seconds.

It might be because of his poorer English and website accuracy when compared with Josh or Andrew, though. Silix is known to be less expensive than other collectors on several models.

Try asking Silix directly about the movement and chrono functions.

Hoping that his English enables him to understand and properly reply your question...

  15. Hmmm, the 028 - not sure about the aged tritium look here. I had one for a short time (2892 with Soprod PR module) from Eddie, but much preferred the polished case, clean dial and leaf PR indicator of the 027.

As for the 203, I agree with V, that OEM strap does the watch no favours at all. I prefer a nice MPXI ;) (strap is mine, watch is now madasboot's)

    dscf0022js1.jpg

That strap is gorgeous, and I think it would make for an even better complement on a brown dial 203. Thanks for giving me an idea for my 203!

    [/picky mode on]

As for the 027/028 issue, for the sake of precision I have to specify that the leaf PR hand is not a feature of the 027 as opposed to the 028, but of the B and C series as opposed to the A series.

As the 027 was made in 500 units for the 027A, 1000 units for the 027B, and 2000 units for the 027C, the 027 with leaf PR hand out there are 6x those with arrow hand. Conversely, the 028 was only made in 500 units for the 028A and 1000 units for the 028B, so you have "only" twice as many 028 with leaf hand than with arrow hand around. That is the real reason why we often see 027 with leaf hand and 028 with arrow hand.
