  1. Thanks triple S...I knew I could count on you. :good: That's exactly what my crystal looks like.

    You are welcome anytime. :D

Andy, I don't know if this is new policy as this is the first time i have inquired about his crystals, but you can order the crystals for 44mm cases with or without AR (same price). Not sure about fiddy.

Sort of. I ordered it without AR because chieftang's or k2222's AR are more effective and less colored. I didn't want to have to strip off the stock AR before sending it in.

Thanks for making it clear. Good choice.

I just checked DSN's offers and yes, it looks he is offering the fiddy crystal with AR only.

But I suppose that if one wants it without AR, asking DSN would not harm.

  2. I repeat, even if I would like to get denied, no such crystal available either in glass or sapphire. Neither from ofrei nor from cousinsuk or what.

But the plexi solutions has its good points.

    It will never crack again.

If the crystal gets scratched then you can bring it to new life just by polishing it with a paste like Poliwatch.

Or, if you prefer, it is so inexpensive that you can buy a dozen at half the price of a standard 35.5mm sapphire crystal.

  3. Maybe your crystal was sapphire. Highly domed sapphire on 1950 cases cracks exactly like mineral glass, or even more often.

Unfortunately there are no 37.2mm, either sapphire or glass, crystals around (btw, 37mm also fits and you will not find it either).

That Sternkreuz crystal is not mineral, it is acrylic (plexi) and it is your only option.

  4. A pink hue is typical of some good sapphire, sometimes they even call it "pink sapphire" (e.g. ofrei).

But it should be barely noticeable, only when looking at the sapphire from very skewed angle. That is why you can hardly notice it when the crystal is mounted on the watch.

It is also more noticeable on domed crystals like those of PAMs than on flat crystals like the SSD.

Being your DSN crystal domed, and as it was not yet mounted on the watch, you were simply in the best possible condition to notice it.

That hue will stay unmodified by single AR. Unsure about double AR.

Personally, I prefer to leave the old gasket in place when replacing a crystal. The old gasket already got shaped by the old crystal, it makes fitting the new crystal easier.

  5. I agree, both 100% scratch resistance of sapphire and reliability of the water drop test are myths.

This leaves you with unability to tell whether that crystal is sapphire or glass.

In any case, your best option is to replace it.

  6. I wanted to order the dial from SILIX but still waiting for an answer. PM was sent. I hope he'll get back to me soon ... :)

Better asking them via email (you can find their email address on their website). Even by email, they often take several days to reply. PM might get unreplied for weeks.

If you find a safe way to remove the logo(s) from the dial(s) please let us know.

  7. You can make the scratches less evident with the Stainless Steel Blackener from Caswell Inc. I tried it, it worked. Not good to make large areas black, but good for tiny areas like scratches.

BTW, in order to work it needs that the scratch is deep enough to go after the PVD coat to the very SS. In other words, the scratch should look bright (SS color) before the treatment.

  8. That is what I am hoping foror another solution is get genuine dial from OFREI or the onewith correct LOGO from Silix ...

I too am on this road, I got the dial from Silix. Its logo is correct, but it is inaccurate in other details. One has to replace only the logo with the logo from Silix' dial.

  9. it's something like DG.....

DG 4813. A very decent 28800 bph auto. 11.19 GBP from cousinsuk (where it is misspelled DG 8413) or 26.10 USD from Ofrei.

But there are two versions of that movement around, different in their cannon pinion height if I correctly remember.

Only one of them would fit the B&R. The other one would fit the Rolex sub.

  10. sssurfer has done a few of his, and really likes it.

    Absolutely.

Looking at how nice a double AR coated watch looks, I could not care less about accuracy.

But I also have a new suggestion for you out there who like a bit of reflections from your PAM...

... even if it may sound like a heresy...

    double AR on mineral glass!!!

I gave it a try (it was not the crystal you sent me, B ) and the result was very pleasant, IMHO. As AR coat on glass is not so effective as on sapphire, slight reflections are left, but not so obtrusive than those from single AR on sapphire. Sort of midway between double and single AR on sapphire.

And the scratch resistance of double AR coated glass becomes the same as double AR coated sapphire. :D

What about the 088 does it has AR at all?

The gen has single side AR -- as all gen PAMs after B series, and with exception for plexi models.
